what part is this?

Improper mounts on the intake caused this part to hit my belt and develop this hole...

this is not normally where the part is, its normally back behind the intake. but for the sake of the picture...

It's the one by Thunder Fabrications here in San Antonio. Works great. I just got one of the first and they hadnt developed a mounting system for this part...

I am not positive what that item specifically is.....but since no one has responded yet....

I looks very much like an engine vacuum check valve. If its not a check valve, it still looks like vacuum to me.

In which case, a hole in it like that would be bad since vacuum systems need to be sealed to work properly.

I would try running the engine and put your finger over the hole to see if you hear/feel air trying to enter or exit the hole.

Yea - I was thinking it could be some sort of vacuum. My car has been running great and the intake has made a huge change. Maybe i'll notice even more when I figure this out and get it fixed

I'm going to mazda today to pickup my new engine cover (they lost my old one) - I suppose I can ask them what it is and see how much they want for one.

Alright - I went to mazda, apparently it's some vacuum chamber. I went ahead and ordered it, $60, should get it mid next week.

Hey Dooby how the F**k did they lose your engine cover? Just curious. Seems like it would be hard to lose.

DoobyWho,

Sorry about that. I thought it was the Rotart Extreme box. On that one, you would have had to remove the part in question. And I thought it was longer than in your pic. I checked mine and nope it's the same thing.

So I could have helped out earlier, but missed the oppertunity to lower your stress level. Sorry about that. Can't tell where you live, but if you're at all close to Indy, I have one sitting in a box if you need it until your's arrives.

Glad you got i figured out on your own.

By the way, on all the parts I;ve ordered, they have an overnight option for an additional 10%. I beleive that's a Mazda ordering thing. So it should be available to you as well. Perhapse for future parts.

I appreciate it. Ya they didn't mention the overnight thing, they said because of the holiday it will arrive mid next week. I just put some electrical tape over it until it arrives :-p
