What Octane Gas?

I know there are numerous threads about what gas and if premium is really necessary but i want to get a general idea of what gas is commonly used.

93 is best if you can get it. 91 is more common where I am, and is as low as I"ll go, personally.

Racing fuel is a waste of money for street use, plus it's over 8 bucks a gallon.

Many people report no problems with 87 but it's not recommended by Mazda.

91/92 is most common in my area so I go with those. I've run 89 ok in a pinch but don't like going below 91. I've splurged on 93 as well (mostly my rare Winter driving, as it's somewhat "drier"), but for street it's really not necessary.

Georgia has 87/89/93 and Mazda strongly recommends at least 91.

I have run in 89 and noticed a reduction in performance and mileage, so I stick with 93 whenever possible.

89. I get the same power as on 91 but I get about 20 miles more out of a tank.

89 or 93, depends on what I feel like spending that day. I do seem to get less MPG though with 89. No one around here has 91.

I'd run 91 or even 93 if you can get it.

Well, unless you like the sound of detonation.

I now run Shell 91 exclusively, use to use Sunoco 93 it has up to 10% ethanol but fuel economy, power seem the same as with Shell 91 and I save 7-10 cents a liter.
In my old GTP with the 93 there was a noticeable difference over the 91 in fuel economy and power. I don't think rotaries like ethanol!

I've never used anything under 91 octane in my car.
If I could get 93, I'd use that.

Using octane rating to determine power output is useless. Gasoline formulations change from State to State, County to County and Brand to Brand. Formulations change from summer to winter. One station will work fine with 87 and across the street you will have problems with 89.
Just find a brand that works fine for you and stick with it.

I always use 93 at the local Valero by my house. Best price around here and it gets me the best gas mileage. WIN WIN!!!! Not to mention my heart flutters if I cannot find a gas station with 93. The lowest I have ever used is 91 and it was not by choice.
