You'll learn really fast that most everyone here has a little gremlin in their vagina that starts ripping flesh anytime someone asks a question where the answer is found in the manual or in some obscure post on this board that went up 6months ago. They'll spend half their time here typing posts about searching when it could be spent typing out a simple answer to the question asked.
Some people are really helpful, but the majority seem to not be able to keep that little gremlin happy.
I wish I knew the answer to your questions, but I've forgotten. I know the motor oil is 5w20 and non-synthetic is generally preferred. There was some debate over synthetic vs dino oil and I didn't want to read the 300 page thread to find the outcome. I just run a good dino oil and change it every 3k miles. Also, keep a bottle of oil and a funnel in your car. These motors eat oil by design. You'll probably need to top off every 2-3 tanks of gas. Just make it a habit to check your oil when you fill up and you'll be fine.
The trany, at least the auto, calls for a 'special' fluid. Mazda sells it for a pretty penny, but I think (I'm not positive) it can be had for less from other sources. The rear diff may be the same stuff, but I don't remember. I actually posted a thread on it several months ago. the answers were there. I think this is also non-synthetic.
Hopefully that'll give you a starting point for your research.

^^You sir, stop talking. If you were a true owner you would know the answers to every simple question asked here.
To the OP, there are tons of threads that will help you out. Hell, at the bottom of this thread there links to "similar threads", as you notice most end up in the Lounge because most get tired of answering the same questions over and over again.

The other answer is also reasonable -- check the owners manual, and you can download it from Mazda for free.

Before you talk, do your job first.
Yes, everyone gotta start from somewhere. but "my" point of view is that, if I want to learn something. I will try to do my own research first, I only ask for help when Im truly out of ideas. If all I do is "copy copy copy/spoon fed me with info", I will never learn.
just about 4 years ago I was a complete n00b, worked my *** off and got my first and new car. RX-8. no one in my family knows how to work on cars.
I start from oil change, then spark, then wires, then stereo, then electrical ...
I did all the work myself, Its not as hard as I first thought. Google is so easy to use, information is all at your finger tips.
Now Im working on my FC, replacing all 4 shocks, rebuild calipers, toe eliminators, etc. something that I never thought I would know-to 4 years ago.
got that ?

It will confuse them even more.

As far as gear oil goes, a lot of folks here recommend one of the following:
- Red Line MT90
- Royal Purple MaxGear 70w90 (stay away from RP Synchromax! It's not designed for the RX's tranny)
- GM Synchromesh
A number of folks have said that Red Line performs best after the car has been warmed up, so no fast shifting right away, but YMMV.
I haven't heard anything negative about the latter two, so those are your best bets. The GM is the cheapest of the bunch.
Personally, I'm running BG Synchroshift and have been very happy with it:
http://www.amsperformance.com/cart/B...mance.com.html
If it weren't for some well known performance guys recommend the Synchroshift, I was going to go with the Royal Purple MaxGear.
As far as differential fluid, I don't think it matters much. I'm using standard Valvoline and notice no difference as compared to the stock fluid.
In regards to oil, I believe the majority of the folks here recommend Castrol GTX non-synthetic 10w30 or 10w40. I would run 10w40 and switch to 5w30 during your coldest 2-3 months.

Rotary Powered Countryboy
MT-90 redline is preferred around these boards for the gear lube(I believe it's preferred)
As for motor oil I have used 5w20 5w30 and 10w30 NON SYNTHETIC...I'm sticking with 5w30 from now on. Personally 5w20 istoo thin and I don't prefer synthetic but many around here do..
Just for future reference if you have a ? us the search function as it's prob been discussed before.

most GL5 fluids will be okay, youre supposed to use straight 90W but most parts shops do not carry it. I've been using Valvoline GL5 85W-70 I think and its been okay. Not sure if its recommended but its better that NO FLUID.

I don't understand why folks start flame wars. Either answer the question or don't. Why waste the energy repeating yourself?
I was a n00b on here a couple months ago and while I DID read a zillion threads, I posted some noob-ish questions and folks were nice enough to take the time to answer my questions. Remember, we were all noobs once...
