What is the break-in on this car???
I got my 8 Tuesday and have about 490 miles on it (came with 190). I asked the dealer and they said there was no break-in, but I am playing it safe just in case. BUT, I got stuck in the snow in my driveway becuase my snow tires have yet to come in and I had to rev it to roughly 7k to finally get my tires to eat up the snow and get a jolt of traction. Is this bad? and what break-in should I be careful for?
Thanks,
Troy J.

Pffft. Then get off your lazy *** and read it. How can you spend 30G on something and not at least GLANCE at the manual is beyond me. Hell, toss it in the can and read it while you... "concentrate".

But to answer the first question... take it easy the first 600 miles or so- keep the revs under 6k if you can, and drive at different speeds/gears during this period. I managed to make it to 1000 miles before I started going past 7k, but finding the rev limiter was just a few miles later : )

Hmmmmmm. I wound mine out on the way home from the dealer ship. BTW, I read the manual a couple of times and saw no specific break in instuctions. It had 82mi on it (they had to drive it from another dealer as my deposit clearly indicated an expiration date that precluded any additional waiting. The important piece is that the engine be warm before you romp on it.

It is just good practice to let any complex machine break in for a bit...think of all those gears, seals, shafts, rotors, springs, and do-dads whirring and clinking around...they all need time to get know one another so they can party later on.
1 or 2 miles on the odometer should do it...then stomp on it! MuHhahahaaaa!

They traded the car from another dealer to get the one my dad wanted me to get. I wanted a manual, but he wanted to get me an automatic, and he bought the car so I had to get an auto. We got it for $250 under invoice 29.5 was the price and we got it for 26.5k. I think we did pretty good, they don't seem to be selling many of the RX-8's though.
I could have gotten 1 of 11 manuals for invoice or lower from the same dealership. But, IMO that is because you can get a 350z for the same dough. I didn't, because my dad's employee has one and he is 35; and that would be a bit weird---18 & 35 owning the same car.
And, I finally read the manual today and it didn't teach me much, the only manual I was forced to read was my dad's 7-series I-Drive manual. That was a pain to get used to, but now it is a piece of cake.
