water pump leaking and failing?

I just noticed my water pump is starting to fail, just want to check with you guys to see if that thing leaks a lot or not. Is it a common problem?

If it leaks..it is shot......( unless it's coming from the gasket )

check and see where the leak is coming from

there is a "mini" hole right under the pulley area. if the coolant comes out from that ... your water pump is shot.

if its leaking from the side, its probably gasket.

but either way, if any of them leak, you should replace both (damn I felt like I spent the last 2 minutes to type a load of bullshit lol)

It's under warranty, they are taking care of it. I am just curious to see if this is a replacement item like the coils

Go figures, they had me drive 45 miles into the shop on Tuesday and Wednesday, now they tell me Mazda didnt ship them the gasket. They want me to come back tomorrow again. I told them I am not coming back until next month. So either give me a loaner car or risk having the engine blow up. If it blows up, I am not paying a dime for this as they have to document that they can't get the part and refuse to give me a loaner car.

Mazda is cheap, they wont give people loaner car like they used to.

Cheap ***, I guess that's why people pay extra for the luxury brand (if they can afford it) to get the right service.

Just do the work yourself... its cheaper, better, you learn more about your car, you KNOW you did a good job installing it, and its just that piece of mind. But... you live by your warranty, you die by your warranty...

if its going to be take care of under warranty. I dont see any reason to deny it.

You paid for the warranty anyway. might as well use it.

as for the Loaner ... the rules are pretty clear, you get it only if u're still under b2b warranty.

If u have to, u can get a rental, its only like 30 bux a day anyway, it has bundle discount too(for NYC)

I agree.
I would have just bought the water pump from MazMart, grabbed a socket set, and installed it right in their parking lot.
Its that ridiculously easy to change out.

If the gasket between the pump and it's housing (Motor front cover) is bad it can leak there without anything being wrong with your pump.

Paul.

You get a loaner for any work that takes more than 4 hours, but now there is an added rule stating that the car has to be inoperable before that counts. Since a leaky water pump is still consider an operable car, so it doesn't qualify. Anyway I bitched and said either take care of it, or they better sign the paperwork over and risk losing the motor from waiting too long. I gave them two days for them to get the job done right, don't tell me to come for a third day as I actually work. They ended up finding the gasket at a dealership 50 miles away, job all set I think. They got the gasket from a dealer that denied my warranty claim on my broken cup holder lid because they claimed I broke the plastic tab on the cover.

Anyway I think it is likely the gasket was the part that went, not the pump itself, but then who knows. They were smart, they just replaced both items. I know some places won't replace the pump if it isn't bad. I honestly was surprised they did both if it is indeed the gasket. The service writer said it wasn't worth the trouble to possibly do the same job twice.

I wish, maybe in a few years. Are you the pissed off ignorant conservative who is bitching and moaning about everything? Where is the next town hall meeting, let's go terrorize that too.

drive it around the block, let the coolant out of the radiator, crank it up and drive it around the block several times and then back to the dealership when it's clanking and smoking, problem solved ...

True, but then you can't buy a fancy upgrade water pump from Mazmart.

And if it works, you don't know how long the pump will last.

So why not save a headache of replacing it twice and just buy a pump from Paul?
