The vaccume solenoid on the back of the airbox that connects to the tube going towards the front of the car is the VFAD solenoid.. if you attatch the vaccum hose it will operate.. but then that hole will be closed most of the time..
with the RE intake, that made the engine more quiet.

If you leave the vacuum hoses disconnected the door will remain open all the time. The hose from the engine goes to a vacuum amplifier can. From there the next hose crosses over to the solenoid which regulates when the door will open. If the engine is too cold the solenoid blocks the vacuum signal from opening the door. Then, from the solenoid the hose goes under the airbox and connects to the metal lines which lead to the diaphragm.
