Seriously...?

How do they justify that much charge...

that's like a third of what paying for the new engine would cost.

The engine warranty only covers "core engine" (rotors. seals, housing, etc)

The "extended" Mazda engine core warrantee is good for 96 months or 100k from the date of original sale PERIOD. No additional warrantees no matter how many engines you get replaced within the first 8 years. There is an 800 number you can call to see if your engine was replaced previously and what the warrantee covers if it's not in your glovebox.

For example my car was first titled in 12/2003 so my replacement engine in 2009 is still repairable/replaceable under warrantee until 12/2011 PERIOD.

These are NOT brand new engines. Only factory rebuilds of the core. So you will most likely get an off the shelf exchange rather than your actual engine. My replacement engine even had the old plugs Dealer reinstalled as the PO wouldn't pay the $200 for new ones. Get the pix on how one can rack up alot of money on the reinstall doing normal maintenance items not covered under the warrantee internals and housings depending on age and condition.

I still think it's a great deal!! And gives one peace of mind while sorting out their car initially. I put a couple grand into my car in 3 months but now it's totally awesome AND reliable. We love it.

Good luck. BTW wouldn't you save alot of labor on the new clutch if the engine is removed first?

Oh good call on the labour with the clutch.. But quite honestly I bet they don't charge by the hour, they just charge what the average swap time is for a clutch.

And either way I don't have the money for a clutch.. or anything else quite frankly, I spent down to the last dime on the car it self so I'm a little worried on the upcoming month.. and tomorrow when I take it in... Yikes.

EDIT: And there is a lot of new **** in the car(coils, plugs) so couldn't I just say "Keep EVERYTHING except the engine, just do a strait swap"?

Or by core do they only mean the internals...?

Hm, ok good to hear.

I took the car in today, and their compression tester is broken. erg. But they're gonna do the clutch pedal check and check the noise i've been getting while in neutral with the clutch un-depressed. and they said they would call me when they get a new compression tester(~2 weeks)

Oh, and on a side note, they don't acknowledge bad starters :/ which I thought was a little weird... but none the less i was gonna do that one myself.

Don't be disturbed with the lengthy list. Personally I've had very few of these issues on my 2004 built in 2003. But it makes good reading and can give you some leverage on Dealer Denials.
