Over revving could do it. My rev limit is set at 8500RPM.

It would be the acceleration (in rpm) that did it rather than the top rpm reached. Having said that, mine was not actually that extreme when I looked back at the data, 8340 to 9580 rpm in a short space of time, so maybe it was some kind of manufacturing flaw. I think I had my limiter set at 8600 on the day.

Btw, was your 10k motor stock, or was that balanced or modified in any other way to help with high rpm?

Are you suggesting I should trade my RX8 in for a Ford focus?

9kpmrx8,
Get me over to put my B12 kit on, and we can get a 2+ year sample with 6k miles on it.

just let me know when man. This weekend is mothers day but I am pretty much free, just look at your calendar and let me know when you are not globe trotting and we can knock it out.

Thanks,
I also need a driver side headlamp on a HID. Mine got moisture inside and scaled up bad. You know anyone with a used one? $800. for new seems rough.

I'm out of pocket June 14 to Sept 14, so you could look for it this summer, and I come in late Sept.

I'll definitely put some finders fee and mechanic fee in your pocket.

Your money is no good here. If you can't do it before June 14th then September is good for me, nice and cool

I will keep an eye out for some factory Xenons.

Hey, isn't that the same guy who thinks Seafoam is the bomb? Actually, doesn't he also think Cleanboost Maxx adds 11WHP to any car? I should probably start a thread about that last one just for giggles. I bet adding OxyClean to your gas has the same effect. Wait. I know a member who would actually buy that. Better not.

Here's my Oil Analysis that I just got back... I have a 2009 R3 that I bought used 3 months ago. (Therefore, I don't know what specific oil the previous owner was using, besides that it was 5W-20). It has around 23k miles on it.

By the way, my engine was pretty good on the compression numbers (High 7's on all seals). Should I be worried about the Chromium number?

Thanks for sharing. I'm not sure how they are doing viscosity on that report but it looks okay overall. But I would change to a better 40 oil. Oh, and I hate to burst your bubble but high 7's is not perfect on an S2 that likely cranks at 300RPM. Not bad, but not that good IMO considering the low mileage.

Thanks 9k. Anything else you see that's not normal?

Anyone else have any opinions?

The universal average for chromium is 6ppm according to Blackstone's data. Eleven is above that average, but a many cars look a lot worse. All of your other wear metals look really good.

I'm working on our own stats... 6 years of posts though, it will take me a while.

Maybe I should set it up as a google form, so people can add their own if I'm taking too long to get to each. And share the resulting data in an open link so I don't have to maintain it.

Just got mine back from Blackstone... they noted high lead, curious about their comment there. This oil is about a year old (car was stored Nov-April), so that's 5000km with 6 track days on it.

Also curious about the low moly content compared to average, given that this oil is .. you know.. LiquiMOLY. Asked Blackstone if they feel this is significant.

What is TBN exactly?

TBN looks good, need more comparison samples though.

Loki,

That UOA looks a good as any UOA I've seen, and you ran it longer than some RX8 guys.

Some good oils have almost no moly, and it has to be suspended right, but your iron is low so it looks good to me.

9krpmrx8, hey, my hid headlamp isn't that bad, but let me know it you ever find on for less than $500.

Here is the first UOA of new to me 2010 S2. No idea of when previous owner changed oil nor what oil he put in. Car had OEM oil filter so that was good sign.

I did the oil change with 4 quarts(all I could get out) of penzoil platinum and ran it for 500 miles when I did another change before track day with redline 5w-30 when this sample was taken. I also ran 3 bottles of techron FI cleaner during this period and prior to me getting the car it was not driven for about 4 months over the winter.

Looks like previous owner used 40wt oil and wear looks good. Will sample it again next spring. Car will mostly see track use with some occasional weekend driving.
