Or you were able to remove all forms of resistance from the system. Again, impossible.

legokcen,
Nice screen shot , however watch out for that ticket in the mail now! ;-)

Xyntax,

"Mazda doesn't even mention any speed limiter at all. All they say on their catalogs and magazine ads is this "drag limited" next to the stated max speed. Some cars would say something else that would describe that there is something mechanical that limits your speed."

I believe if you look at the inital brochure from Mazda it has an * (asterick) by the 6th gear, 148 mile top speed there...it does state some type of limiter...but been awhile since I've looked at it though...

I live in Alaska, and running from Fairbanks to Tok there's a HUGE stretch of Highway thats nice new road, long and flat. We got my buddy in his GTI VR6 way out in front with his Valentine 1 radar, kept in contact via Cobra radios. He governs out at 130, I let him get really small in the distance. He radioed back with a top end met and all is clear on radar and visual. I let her loose and was able to hit 150 in 5th gear, red lining it to hell but before the rev limiter. I saw 150 and had to slip to 6th. Then i varied between 146-148, so we'll say 147. I still had RPM's to go, but it just wouldn't do anymore. Needless to say i blew by his silver GTI like it was standing still and kept running for a bit. One huge notice to point out...150 felt like 75 with everything flying by twice as fast. That didn't feel a thing, no shakes no nothing. Figured I'd share!!!
Question though...if you say drag stops it at 150 or so, then that means no matter what upgrades I do to increase horse, my top speed will never increase. Has anybody done anything drastic and tried to top end it? Or say hypothetically a 20B got dropped in the chasis, it would still top end at 150?

wind resistance is just a force holding you back, which means that the amount of power propelling your car forward has matched the wind resistance...means you need more power, though im not sure how much power you would have to gain to move ahead to 160.

look at drag cars, 55 chevy belair with a 454 and a blower, theres no way that car was ever meant to go over 100mph out of the factory, but with the help of some major power, it can easily slip past that 100mph marker.

Did the warning buzzer sound? How much did the car slow down when you upshifted from 5 to 6th, did the speed drop under 146 and recover?
Was the air nice and cold up there?
