under hard acceleration trouble shifting into forth gear

I redlined it in third gear and it wouldn't go into fourth, then I got a cel and couldn't go higher than 6000 rpm until the cel went away. Tried it again and still put it into forth. But when I shift at lower rpm's there are no problems. Has this happen to anyone else?

My tranny went south too, at speeds greater than 65 there was a grinding noise and feel going from 6 to 5, all other gears were fine.
Well, they opened up the transmission and called Mazda tech.serv. They are rebuilding it now and said the 5th gear was messed up, and the synchronizer on it. I don't think any gear other than the 1st and 2nd had synchronizers !!
well, I get the car back after the weekend, hope they can balance everything back to the way it was.......

how full was your gas tank.. if it was less than 1/3 full you might have had fuel starvation and a missfire... then the ecu goes into the limp mode...

dont ask me how i know..

By any chance was your engine cold when you did this? The rotary will run in limp mode if you try going hard on the engine when it's not fully warmed up.

No, my engine was warmed up. I think it went in limp mode when I couldn't put it in fourth and it revved at 9500 or over.

I'm not worried about the engine going in limp mode, just worried about not being able to put it in fourth gear.

That happened to me a couple times back. My car was not cold at all. I noticed that it was only around 7500k+. I havent tried it again recently, but usually shifting at anyting lower is no problem.
