Which type of coils in the RX8?

RX8 coils, original sensor connectors...

This is thread recycling. Title was : Which type of coils in the RX8?

I'm now trying to source RX8 engine sensor/actuator connectors.
In details :
- ignition coil connector (3 pins)
- ECT connector (2-pin Denso)
- MAFS connector
- ETB connector
- Injector connector (is it a std Mini Timer? I haven't checked actually).
Each type in female AND male to make adaptors coming between original engine harness and sensors/actuators. P/Ns and supplier details welcome.

If not possible, I might have to work on the PCM side of the loom. Does someone know the P/Ns and supplier of the PCM connectors (again, female AND male)?

Are the RX8 ignition coils standard inductive coils (amplifier in the PCM) or are they coil packs with intergrated amplifier (logic driver in the PCM)?

If you know what the PCM ignition driver signal look like, I'd love to know too. Otherwise, I'll have to scope it.

They are coil packs with an integrated amplifier. The PCM signal is just a square wave. I scoped it the other day when I was looking for an rpm wire to tap into, but dont' remember the amplitude or frequency range. I just briefly looked at it, it was 10pm, cold and dark, so I was in a hurry, (I really need a garage) but I seem to remember the duty cycle was something less than 50% and it was frequency modulated to reflect the actual rpm.

Thanks, I'm also looking for some sort of RPM signal. Did the ignition signal work with the device you wanted to install?

And usually, on these systems with logic ignition drivers, the lenghts of the square wave gives the dwell time.

Yes, the rpm signal worked fine. I was installing an Apexi Avc-r boost controller and needed the rpm wire for the rpm offset feature.

The signal might have varied Duty cycle, I was trying to hook up that last wire and get inside, it was cold. So I just looked for some type of change in the signal relative to rpms. From what I recall I thought it varied frequency, but maybe it was duty cycle.

I tapped the wire at the ecu though, not at the actual coil. It was located in the second plug from the passenger side. If you want an exact wire location let me know and I'll get it for you.

The only wires from the ECU to the coils are the signal wires indeed. And they all come from plug 2.
I'll have a look at which kind of signal the Apexi is compatible with. It might be a digital input that's compatible with any ignition signal. It's not the case of the device I wish to use.

For your installation, did you use some kind of ECU loom adaptor or did you splice into the original loom? I don't really want to amend the original loom. I wish I could find OEM connectors (female AND male - if these exist at all) for the coils and other engine sensors.

I have an interceptor and so I spliced directly into the wiring harness that goes between the interceptor and the factory ecu.

I don't know how many you're looking to buy, but the Greddy harness provides that capability. I don't know if they'd sell you just their harness though.

The Greddy Harness comes between the ECU and the engine harness I believe. These connectors are easier to source than the sensor connectors. I might actually go that route indeed...

Talk to Maurice...he has a lot of the ECU connectors I believe....probably knows about the connectors for the others as well as he was buying them from the suppliers overseas in Asia
