Don't know of any rebuild kits out. Try getting all the parts through Mazda or even try MazMart.

Rebuilding transmissions is not that easy too, be prepared for a hard job!
What do you exactly need? it is not an engine where you can be safe buying what you call a rebuild kit, you should have an idea of what is broken and what you might need as an extra.

you will need much more than that to do it right and the parts aren't inexpensive even through discounted source, if you have to go to a dealer then you might as well forget it

once you figure parts and labor it will be much cheaper to buy a used one or a new one through Mazda Motorsports

this particular trans requires some special factory tools to rebuild, a very experienced shop might get by without them but one in particular is important

there is a stand-alone Mazda service manual for the RX-8 transmission

^^yep.

Even with MMS discounts. the price of each gear is going to kill you.

It might be better for you to just buy a new or rebuild tranny from somewhere.

You do know how much does our tranny cost brand new right ?

I wouldn't trust a 600 bux "rebuild" tranny from "ebay".

Hey Team, what is the special tool you mentioned. Can it be constructed, or has to be purchased???

the local drivetrain shop was able to get it without the SST tools, but these guys know their poop and it took several tries before they let me have it back

Well I'm in the market to redo my tranny...and I have a guy you makes does cnc machining for a living..been there like 30 years... He builds me parts all the time. Once I get mine apart and find out what's wrong and what's going on...I might talk to him about remaking these parts...price would definably be a lot cheaper. But first I have to tear mine apart.

Never heard of it, guess a trip to the dealer is in order.

Special Service Tool, and the last place you want to go is the dealership for them, if you really want to learn more order the RX-8 Manual Transmission Service Manual, it shows all the tools and their part numbers, most you can get by with using the usual aftermarket tools like gear/bearing pullers, etc.

Alright guys...like I said earlier I have a guy who can make the parts..but when I looked into it I said screw it lol. Like they was saying parts are ridiculously high.

I broke teeth on the 2nd gear counter shaft...cost from mazda was like 582 and the guy said that was the best he could do...

Syncs for second was 175
first was 225
After that I stopped asking questions...

To rebuild this tranny right your going to look at a easy 1500-2000 in just the sync's and second gear...

Note second gear is known for breaking and mazda has a new part number...just cause your's is good doesn't mean it isn't going to break soon...

I was driving and everything was fine..no getting on it...no hard shifts at the time and went to come outta gear..and it was stuck in gear... Never got it outta 6th...never had any grinds except for second but that was only high rpm's...near redline.

I went with the RX7 5 speed tranny..got one from the junk yard.

As far as taking it apart and putting it back together.. you start at the tail and work your way forward and hope non of it falls apart while you take it apart...other wise it isn't that hard if your have a awesome memory and are good at doing puzzles.

I just had mine rebuilt with 35k on it. 2nd gear synchro went, all of the sudden. All gears were notchy when it went, and I had a lot of trouble getting it into reverse even from the day I drove it off the lot brand new. Now its smooth. They had to replace a bearing on the countershaft as well. I'm switching to better oil this weekend, its still a bit stiff when cold. I had the oil changed at 10k miles and I've been driving stick for 15 years and never had a transmission fail.
