Mine makes the same noise. Only when in neutral and the clutch is not engaged. Dealer told me it was normal.

Also the 8 Tranmissin is kinda nosiy so you hear some sounds that are comming from the trannie.
Thew, that is exactly my point...When your foot is off the clutch the TB should not really be touching the PP at all.

I'm not saying it is a problem and it very well may be normal. I just can't see it as being caused by the TB.

And, I say if it IS caused by the TB, then it is probably there whenever your foot is off the clutch pedal, but masked by other noises.

hehe we are trying to say the same thing except that with your foot off the clutch the TB does rest against the PP. this makes it spin with out any real load on the Bearings. Thus the Noise.. when its under load the TB is realitivly quiet..

its all good were saying the same thing.. Like I said before
it Purring to you it loves you

It seems like there are many threads about transmission problems. This all makes me wonder how the transmissions will hold-up against the supercharger that Sunflower Mazda is installing, or even the ECU mods from Canzoomer.

You're right, it's not the throwout bearing causing the noise in neutral - the proper term is gear rattle. In neutral with the clutch engaged, the gears are turning inside the transmission, but the output shaft is not being driven. There's no load on the gear faces, so they can shift from pressure on the front of the gear teeth (as when accelerating) to pressure on the back of the gear teeth (as when decelerating) back and forth - that back and forth of the pressure on the idling gears causes the noise in neutral. Perfectly normal.

Regards,
Gordon

The picture leads me to believe it is... which means everyone should be dynoing their cars in 5th gear, but thats another can of worms I'm not opening.
