Transmission failure

1500 miles on my car and i was shifting from 1st to second and i heard a bad grinding noise, pulled over, it kept doing it....had it towed to my dealer, they told me the trans neaded to be replaced, and my warrenty covered it...they also said it was my fault and they were ttaking pics of my tires and transmission for future reference.

i just got the car back today, i wasnt charged anything, but i did have to drive a mercury sable for 3 days (yuck) everything is great, car shifts nice, like its supposed to...

has anyone else had this happen?

Did they say exactly what had happened to it. Sounds like the syncros got fried.

My 3rd and 4th synchros were fried because there were bad shift forks. it took 3 days for the repair and it's fine. they replaced all my shift forks and 3rd and 4th synchros

i told them that the car salesmen abuse the cars on test drives before they are even properly broken in, which is very true

Now, my car was never driven by a salesman...I know because I followed every step from the time it was delivered to the dealer.

That said, I have been noticing increasing noise from the synchros and even stopped by the dealer to drive a car off the lot for comparison.

It was hard to tell at first since the rotary has a whining sound anyway...but today, with the radio off and the windows up I simply coasted with the clutch in while in 1st gear...noticing plenty of whine from the gearbox. If I remove the car from gear and coast...it is smooth and completely quiet. Back in gear and very noisy in both 1st and 2nd.

I'm wondering if this is an early warning of eminent (and soon to be experienced) destruction?

Note: I only have 1400 miles at this time.

Nah, that would fix it. I am now at just under 5000 after hearing a bit of noise around 1500. I drove it as you suggest and the noise stopped around 1800. No more since.

That's complete typical dealer bs! That's why I never trust any dealers service departments. Dealers are there to sell cars not fix them. Unfortunately the warranty ****'s are watching who do the work to the car.

If they had accused me of that I would have printed up all of the transmission failure threads on the forum and taken them to them. Then I would ask that tech if he would like to publicly accuse me of that in front of a judge while I am handing over the printed threads. I'd use the same tactic the next time the car needed work too. Ask him to definitively without a shadow of a doubt prove that it was your fault based on those pictures. I bet he can't. Typical service center laziness.

My tech swapped the oil to synthetic and my tranny quieted down considerably. I have 8500 on it currently, but it still makes some noise in 1st and 2nd. He mentioned that he knows of two 8's that locked up in 6th gear completely. Makes you wonder...

I painted my calipers using canned paint (not spray paint) because it's thicker and smooths out the calipers in addition to changing it's color.

I bought the strakes from truss or rosen (I forget which), they were $200.
