Tranny problems..

Well..last wednesday I was on my way to work and when I shifted from 1st-2nd it sounded like something came lose and then there was no second gear..just revving...and I couldnt even move it into 3rd gear....when I release the clutch I hear all this noise like something is loose......
So, I have it towed to mazda and they give me a loaner car...I dont hear anything for the rest of the week from them..so I call this morning to get the status and they said that they have a mazda engineer coming to look at it today cause they aren't sure what happened....any opinions or ideas?
My car is an '05 6spd..with 12k miles on it....I bought it in July....

OK. I'll go with the obvious.

Clutch or tranny problem.

That's heavy mileage you're putting on the car. Is it highway or city? Did you buy it new, or are those someone else's miles on the car. Do you drive it nice and easy, or nice and rough?

There is a thread called "this is my second gear" which you might look at.

Well, I just got off the phone with Mazda and he told me that they ordered a new transmission today. When they dropped the pan it was full of parts...not sure what went wrong. So hopefully I will get my car back in the next two weeks.

There have been repeated stories of loose flywheel bolts and I discovered mine were loose when I swapped my flywheel and the same for someone else when I swapped his flywheel with him. May have been the same thing here.

Burning Clutch??

I wonder if shifting at high RPMs is a contributor to the many tranny issues & threads I've seen.. As the rotaries love (& need) to be revved, we drive and shift pretty hard, but don't know how tolerant the transmission components are to this.
