Torque Sensor Removal

I have read many times on this site that once the Torque sensor on the Power Steering Rack is faulty, the only fix is to change the entire rack as the sensor is contained inside the rack and cannot be changed as a separate unit.

I recently removed what I consider the Torque Sensor from my rack - tested it as per instructions from the Wiring Manual and got the designated readings ( 12-15 ohms)

My question is - is the unit in the attached pics the torque sensor or not ?

Thx

thats only part of the sensor. its not replaceable.

mind you - if you are having an issue and the test is normal as you indicated then your next step is to inspect the harness of the torque sensor and the eps motor wire harness and if those are both normal then you have to replace the control module

you're right - I think an inspection of wire harnesses is next.

I keep blowing to the 60Amp fuse to the EPS, I know its not the PS motor as the fuse still pops even though the connector to the motor is not jacked in.

Also the torque sensor checks out OK. Checked the 3 wires from the TQ sensor to the module - no shorts there.

Also switched to a spare PS Module but Fuse still popped.

like he said, that is only *part* of the sensor and it will take a different rack to get the parts regardless, so that seems to be your only solution ....

OK problem sorted out. Using the Wiring schematics for the EPS, I was able to find a short in the harness and fix it. Thankfully both rack and module are fine.

To: bixx66 Where did you find the wiring diagram? Is it in the RX-8 service manual under the electronics section? If so, what page. If not, please let me know where to find it.

Thanks!

90% of the time it's the harness that failed

A lot of expensive racks are bought for no reason, like NY says, it's usually the wiring....

This problem was identified over seven years ago.

Eps fuse keeps on blowing

brother same thing is happening to my rx8 as the eps fuse on the positive terminal keeps on blowing fuse, even tried to change rack and pininon motor from the other rx8 and as well the eps module but still the power steering light is still on, what did you do to fix that?
