Ticking sound

i just got back from a ride and when i parked my 8 in the garage i noticed what sounds like a loud ticking sound coming from the engine compartment. i took the emgine cover off and can't see any apparent reason for it. this is not the ticking when turning sound some people have experienced as the car is not moving. no cel was thrown. i'm bringing it in tomorrow without an appointment to get it checked. i'll let everyone know what happens.

Sounds like a heat shield contracting to me, lots of cars make clicking noises as they cool down. Normal. Or maybe you are hearing the electic throttle, that goes through a closed-position check procedure after you turn the ignition off. Did it sound like an electric motor? Bzzzzz --click----weeeee.........?

no i'm pretty sure that's all just the heat cycling stuff. happens on all sortsa cars when the motor's hot and cools down quickly enough.

UPDATE:

the ticking sound is back which leads me to believe the air compressor mounting bolt is loose again. anybody have the shop manual and know exactly where it is and if so how hard is it to get to? i'd tighten it myself if i can.

I had the ticking sound to. (It sounds like valves hitting on a piston engine). Come to think off It, I think I heard it sometime after the first time they tried to fix the A/C. On my second visit I mentioned this & I have not heard it since. I do not know what they did, since paper work which I have not received, was supposed to be sent to me in the mail.

The only ticking sound I've heard from Maurice's car is the fuel injectors. Sometimes they are noisy and sometimes quiet.

well guess what? this new clicking sound wasnt the a/c compressor bolt lose but 1 of the spark plug wires was off the plug and arching causing the sound. ran fine but i thought the idle was a little rougher. the mechanic pushed the wire back on and said if it comes off again they'll replace it.

That wire didn't "come" off, somebody pulled it off and didn't put it back on properly. Another case of a dealer trying to protect their back by blaming it on the product!

Glad you found the final root cause.

I hear the same sound, especially when I start my car in the morning. It sounds like valve tapping in a piston engine, and is proportional to RPM. Guess I'll go check my plugs.

Bump for my ticking sound.
Started a week ago. Mostly I hear it at start up. But it sounds like a valve tick.
I will check my wires and A/C tonight.

Anybody else have this one happen . .

What was the cure?
