Throttle Lag?

I was testing driving a rx8 (it had about 670 miles on it and had a Aug build date, so its prolly a dealer demo/beater) and I noticed I felt a little throttle lag, something I never noticed before in an Rx8.

I realize that while free revving, the engine doesn't redline with just a blip of the throttle, but this was a wierd feeling. Any of you guys notice this ever? Maybe just a limited issue? any of the ECU mods ever make you guys feel like the throttle response got better or worse?

It might simply be that the 8 is throttle-by-wire (no throttle cable, linkage, etc.), and the electronics limit the rate of unloaded rev accelleration to avoid over-revving the engine. Just a thought...

Well, the 8 is throttle by wire, but that really doesn't explain why this 8 would feel differently than other 8's. It could be as simple as fouled plugs from running the original flash which is probably K on this car if it was built in August. Or it could be that they haven't topped up the oil, which I'm sure that they haven't, or it could be more serious. It's difficult to tell without driving it and knowing how serious the problem is. Could be anything.
