So at the suggestion of a new garage I started visiting, my last oil change was with LiquiMoly 5w40. Apparently it's a German oil made for German cars, and everything I've read points to it being highly regarded -- for Mercs, BMW, Porsche, etc. Their marketing material hits heavy on the increase molybdenum content and how moly smoothes bearing surfaces, which can't be bad, right?

Anything rotary-specific I should be looking out for?

I'm about to do the next oil change and am inclined to keep going with it, but wanted to see if anyone here knew more than me about these things or had experience with this brand.

I started with 5w20, then Royal Purple, then Royal Purple HPS.

And in case the holy war starts up again, I'm running synth because Sohn adapter.

 

The shop i work at use's liquimoly and Motul synthetics on pretty much everything thats required for a synth oil change. According to the shop owners experience he used to put mobil 1 in during oil changes but he noticed a lot of the cars would burn off 1 quart of oil fairly rapidly so he switched over to liquimoly and motul and never had that issue again...from what i seen liqui and motul and both really good high quality german/french made oils if i had to rate them they would be right next to Eneos and Idemistu....

In this test, LiquiMoly 0w-40, 5w-40, and 0w-30 look pretty clean. The 0w-30 looks the cleanest of the 3, all seem at least a bit better than Mobil 1 0w-40, though Mobil 1 0w-40 isn't any slouch in that test.

LiquiMoly 5w-50 isn't that great at all.

"Burn off" protection is largely a non-issue for our cars.

 

That's an interesting comparison RIWWP, thanks. Got a fresh load if 5w40 in there now, will try to do a UOA when it's done.

 

My thoughts... I used "liquimoly" and I'm sweating, WHOO!!

 

Might try Castrol Edge 0w40
