for those of you with the metra kit

I want to do a carputer set up REALLY badly.
Besides the fact that I have no idea what components I want, I had hoped to get a similar set up as the OEM flip out nav. I would still prefer it(mostly because it is not easy to see from outside). But I also wanted to keep the stock radio. For those of you with a carputer set up and a metra, or even just an aftermarket nav system like pioneer or something, I would like to know what you think of it. I am parinoid about losing my stock radio!

Also, does your equipment work with steering wheel controls and such?

Lastly, if anyone knows of a good place to get a cheaper used OEM nav housing, i would like to do that more.... but I can settle....

You don't need Metra kit for that.

Check alz0rz's thread.

I've read that thread.

I want do to what he did, but I can't find an OEM nav housing that isn't practically as much as the whole setup itself!

Ideally I would do that.
But the metra is my next choice

I just can't buy it because that is more than I would spend on the screen and that is ridiculous. For the $400 it would cost to get shipped and what not, I could maybe hold out for a parting out nav.... maybe....

Does anyone know of like totaled cars that I could possibly buy this part off of? or a site that browses that kinda thing?

Have you tried Mazmart yet? Could also try calling some junk yards... I've seen enough wrecked 8's in threads on this board alone. You might get lucky and find one that has the nav hood.

yes, I emailed them I guess I'll try the junk yards?

but I'd imagine that they wouldn't have too many of those available. If I totaled my 8, I'd take everything out and sell it... we'll see though.
