For those of you with a carputer

Okay so I have a question for all of you!

I am looking to put one together but am not sure about what components I want.

Is there a website or place where there is a lot of information about popular carputer parts and cases and such.
One other thing that worries me is the power supply. I want it to hiberate when the car goes off and come on when the car does. So what kind should I get?

Also, if you have advice/suggestions from your own setup I would like to hear it!

Thanks

MP3 car is the best resource without a doubt. But it can be daunting to sort through all the info. Hussain has a very good summary of what you need to know before you start:

In my personal experience I think the best decision is to go with a laptop: small size, better vibration resistance and battery backup. I built mine with an old IBM thinkpad (T41) I had sitting at home and it works great. If I had to buy something now I would have gone with a netbook. But that is what I consider the best solution for my needs... you might decide otherwise based on the info.

Be patient and good luck.

Get a netbook with a ssd. Extremely shock resistant, low wattage. 8~10" screen. Cost about $400. Load a lightweight Linux distro and they run very well. XP is OK on 'em, but as XP slows down it becomes unbearable, imo. Dell sells 'em with Linux or XP.

I want something a little more powerful than a netbook. I am going to build a pc I think. I have done it before, just not for a car.

But ssd is definitely something I am interested in. Anyone know of a good brand or price or a specific one out there? I'm looking for about 32 gb....

Here is a link for SSD's:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...0847&name=32GB

Newegg has great pricing and they are good with returns. Not affiliated with 'em, just a happy customer.
