Squeaky Alternator Pulley

Hey Guys,

My car has been making an annoying chirp/squeak at idle, and I deduced that it's coming from the alternator pulley. If I spray a little WD-40 right in the middle of the bearing the sound goes away, but comes back after a few minutes. Is there a better lube I can put on there to silence it, or do you think my bearing is going bad and should just replace it?

Thanks!

Sounds like replacement time.

I suppose I'll look into replacing it. I'm not sure where I would get that part though...

In the meantime I tried rubbing a little white lithium grease in the center bearing of the pulley and that seems to be doing well. It's been a day now and the noise is still gone. I'll be keeping an eye on it to see how long that lasts.

Once you get the alternator apart, any bearing supply company should be able to help you. here's a start: https://www.motionindustries.com/mot...p/mi/index.jsp

double check belt tension too.. if the belt is too tight, it will wear out the bearing much faster than normal
