Squeaky Alternator Pulley
Hey Guys,
My car has been making an annoying chirp/squeak at idle, and I deduced that it's coming from the alternator pulley. If I spray a little WD-40 right in the middle of the bearing the sound goes away, but comes back after a few minutes. Is there a better lube I can put on there to silence it, or do you think my bearing is going bad and should just replace it? Thanks! |
Sounds like replacement time.

i'm having the same issue... |
I suppose I'll look into replacing it. I'm not sure where I would get that part though...
In the meantime I tried rubbing a little white lithium grease in the center bearing of the pulley and that seems to be doing well. It's been a day now and the noise is still gone. I'll be keeping an eye on it to see how long that lasts. |
Once you get the alternator apart, any bearing supply company should be able to help you. here's a start: https://www.motionindustries.com/mot...p/mi/index.jsp

double check belt tension too.. if the belt is too tight, it will wear out the bearing much faster than normal
