Some issues with my 8...

I bought it, out of warranty, a few things popped up shortly after buying and I'd like to get some help resolving the issues if possible.

First issue, the headlight auto level warning light is on...Any chance that can be fixed without dicking around with a Stealership?

Second, tire pressure warning light and buzzer come on sometimes. It will stay on for 5 or 6 miles, then go away for 300 or so miles.

Third, when revving around 5k-5500 I hear a tinny rattling sound. At first I thought it was a heat shield or something, but the noise consistently occurs in that RPM range, never lower, never higher.

Fourth, there's a tapping/clicking sound at idle. I assume this is an exhaust leak, but would be interested to know if it's a known issue. Injectors maybe?

Last, sometimes when I leave the clutch out in neutral, there's a slight grinding noise coming from the tranny tunnel. My 7 makes this noise, too, but it has an aftermarket clutch and pressure plate. To the best of my knowledge, the 8 is stock.

TIA,

Brian

your tires just have low pressure when u get them warm they expand and your sensor goes off check your pressure should be around 32-34 i believe. sound u here at 5k i think maybe the intake does it around 2.5k in mine but mines a auto hope this helps

yeah the tire pressure is prob becasue you r right on the border of being low so if it gets cold out it will drop down then when u driv they heat up and go bck in specs...check and just add a lb or 2 i found running mine at 34 is good with stock size tires.

Not sure about the headlight leveling...i would guess u would have to go to the dealership but like i said IDK i'm sure someone will chime in.

The rattling I know it seems a little low but it may just b the final port beginning to open it does make a whistling/rattling sound sort of....do u have normal power through that powerband or does it seem to drop off?

The clicking noise has been discussed here alot...check to make sure your plug wires are tight i had the same issue a weird almot like a knock at idle but rev it up and it went away...just found out it was my front bottom plug wire was not on tight so that took care of that

Thanks guys. The tire pressure light only threw me off because the two times it's come on have been in the midst of a spirited drive, which would make the tires at their maximum temp. You think it's possible that one of the tires is on the border of being overpressurized and the heat from the drive caused it to go up one or two PSI and cause the problem? I'll have to check pressures later.

As for the rattle, I don't know if it holds normal power, I instinctively let off the gas when I hear it. I'll give it a go today, and see if the power feels inconsistant....What's an RX-8 supposed to feel like at 5k?

I want to replace the plugs anyway, so I'll make sure the wires are seated properly when I do that.

Thanks again, fellas.

possibly check out the regional forums in your area and see if someone nearby can take a ride with you and visa versa to make sure ur's is up to snuff to see if it's a normal noise....but if it's loud enough that itmakes u want to let off it might b an actual problem.....

As for the tire pressure the only way to know is to check the pressures and see fi they are high but i believe the high pressure for it to go off it like around50 psi so you better check soon

there are two sensors in the car you can check to see if the connections are corroded (if it is buy some electrical parts clear and hit it up with a brass wire brush). one sensor is behind the rear drivers side wheel its a funky looking thing you'll know it when you see it the other one is in the front but I forget where search for it. if they aren't corroded they need to be rebuilt there is a DIY for it.

Fill up your tires to recommended PSI

Sounds like marbles kind of right?, that CAN be normal noise

I would check the injectors with the z you could ohm the injector I'm not sure if you can with the 8, there is a you tube video out there with bad injector noise on the 8 its pretty loud.

Last, sometimes when I leave the clutch out in neutral, there's a slight grinding noise coming from the tranny tunnel. My 7 makes this noise, too, but it has an aftermarket clutch and pressure plate. To the best of my knowledge, the 8 is stock.
Normal people have spent countless hours trying to figure that out

TIA,

Brian

Noone from the regional forums seems to care to help out...

New issue, I was driving it around tonight and the ABS, TCS and e-brake lights all came on at the same time and stayed on until I shut it down and started back up. I know the e-brake light is usually indicative of low brake fluid, but I don't know what it means when all 3 come on at once.

I believe its from the alternator either a loose connection or a bet is to tight. check the deflection and see if its in spec.

Mine went on a few times

as for everything else if you search enough you'll find your answers

Thanks very much, Shady. I checked the air pressure in my tires today. 50+ PSI in both fronts and 46 PSI in both rears, when warm. I deflated them to 34 PSI on all 4 corners.
