Some issue's

Hello all, I just bought my 2004 6speed RX8. I absolutely love the car the motor was replaced in November 2011. I am having a few issues with it. The worst being my rack seems to be shot. I'll have to turn my car on and off to get it to work sometimes. I checked and replaced the ps relay on the battery cable. I am trying to find out generally what it would cost. Just for the part I work at a shop have been for 6 years. So naturally I would hope its not dealer only. Amongst other things my coolant lite is on as well as a p2070 intake tuning valve stuck bank 1 code that is keeping my check engine light on. I love the car I am going to keep it. I just have to start throwing money at it. Any help and/or advice besides not to rant lol would be greatly appreciated thanks a lot -Matt Buffalo NY

coolant light is an easy fix, just unplug it, and check it every now and then by eye to make sure it isnt low

Ive read a lot about coolant overflow leaking onto power steering wires/connectors and causing problems with corrosion. do a search for that.

oh crap totally forgot to address the "rack" sounds like boobies but yeah ^ what godess said.

happened to me too, yet another simple fix, right under your airbox/airbox tray lies your power steering connectors, locate them by removing your airbox and the tray. go to the store and get some Canned air (keyboard duster, air duster) and some dielectric grease just a lil pack form autozone i believe its like a dollar. next unplug the PS connectors and dust em out thoroughly, then dab some grease on both male and female side of the connector. plug back in and your PS should be normal. if not then you have a bigger issue.

Thank you much for the reply's. I'll definitely give that a try Dozer. I'll let you know the result. On your ps when it stopped working sometimes what did it do? Mine does some pretty funked up sh*t lol. It seems if I turn the key to on wait 5secs and then push the clutch start it it works lol. But by far the weirdest thing was sitting in a parking lot I saw the ps light go on then my steering wheel went all exorcist of RX8 on my *** and spun by its self all the way to the right...scared the **** out of me. And thanks goddess I did check for a leak it turned out the kid who owned it before some reason had the overflow tube resting right by the ps connector. No corrosion but needless to say not the best place lol.

It comes out of the factory that way. Replace the overflow tube with a longer one extending somewhere below those connectors. No corrosion? I assume you did disconnected them to look, because damage may not be visible from outside. Do the grease/contact cleaner thing anyway though.

Ok so I see what y'all are talking about. I unplugged the ps connector and cleaned it up. I put some die electric grease I had at the shop on it....night and day difference. Can't thank you enough for putting some common sense in me lol. Now just have to pull out the intake tuning valve and clean that up. Round 2!

So I finally did the ssv (intake tuning valve) today. Took me about 3 hours at the shop. It was completely gummed up on the valve and the housing. car runs so much better now. its not as hard as the techs from the dealer say it will be. I'd say go for it if any one was having the same sputtering problems as me or has the P2070 Code on.

I'm having the same issue with mine! My power steering started going on and off right before I had to leave for a few months. If I turn it off then back on, sometimes it will reactivate. I've never had the wheel do that crazy crap though. When it's off it just stays off, or works completely.

Yeah it gets annoying really fast. I know when mine is about to go out when I turn the wheel to the right it will be loose as hell. Unfortunately cleaning the plug only temporally stopped it. Probally a good day lol. Looks like its $$ time. I did find a site with a remanafactured comes with every thing tie rods bushings for $600 shipping and core included. If you want the link let me know I'll post.
