Sohn Adapter related question
what size hose to use on that fitting on the adapter??
i have the installation instructions but doesnt say what size hose to use.
any info would be much appreciated as i would like to do this mod asap.
parts been laying around for about a week already and ive searched forum and googled no info on what size to use , also ive seen people use custom fittings but i really want to stick with not changing anything and using what i have.

Take the adapter to Lowes/Home Depot and find a hose that is rated for use with oil that fits the barb fitting on the adapter. Its probably going to be 5/16 or 3/8

You can always do what I did. I brought the adapter with me to home depot, found a black hose that fit snug on the adapter that was acceptable for use with oils, and would stay in place with a small hose clamp then I found a corresponding fitting in plumbing section that fit the hose for the reservoir. Simple and easy.

thank you guys so much so , btw i did happen to go to homedepot and they did not have any hoses for oil/ petroleum use.
also will i be needing hose clamps or is this something where i just need to shove the hose on the fitting and it wont leak?
oh and about how long do i need the hose to be i want to mount the reservoir where the washer fluid bottle is.

does it need to be transparent and heat resistant , im browsing online at lowes / home depot website , amazon and google nothing i see says heat resistant except the black rubber hoses that arent transparent

It needs to be able to withstand engine bay temps, the hose I used is black, is thick, and is heat resistant and is ok to use with motor oils. Doesn't need to be see through, the black hose IMO blends in better in the engine bay that already has black hoses everywhere.
Just make sure it can handle the heat, oil, and wont easily be cut or have holes rubbed into it via vibrations from the engine.

finally got the adapter on now i need to make a bracket for the reservoir.
One last question guys what kind of two stroke oil do you recommend to use in that reservoir?

I use Idemitsu rotary premix, I would say read the premix thread but it is pages upon pages of useless crap and chatter. People say stay away from TCW3 or the marine stuff if you have a cat. still installed. I've heard good things about Royal Purples 2 stroke. I buy my Idemitsu from mazdatrix.com and a case last me about a year plus I still premix even though I have a sohn adapter. I doubt you could go wrong with a quality brand like Amsoil, Redline, or something equivalent.

thanks but i've searched around and some say premixing isnt necessary if just daily street driving. so ill be just using the oil with sohn adapter is there certain weights or specific two cycle oil that i should be using?

Redline, Idemitsu ( use it myself), Yamalube, Amsoil, Rotax...any good synthetic 2 stroke oil designed for air cooled 2 strokes is best
I would personally stay away from the marine 2 stroke oils...but they are still a lot better than using regular motor oil

i have used google but i dont see any local stores around me that sell redline , amsoil and the other ones mentioned above really dont want to purchase online as my cars just sitting there waiting for the oil so i can start it up. and i dont want to put in something that will end up ruining the car. im located in 91755 southern california.

one more thing THERE WAS NO brand amsoil in any of those stores ,or redline 2 cycle oil besides masterpro and lucas which were TCW3 certified and at walmart was some uknown brand called supertech with no certs or ratings at all.

It would be ok to use a good brand TCW3 until a case of a premix of your choice arrives. I just wouldn't use it for an extended period of time. Also, you could always just use some clean oil that you would normally use for your engine. You where injecting dirty motor oil before, I'm sure clean motor oil would be ok until a case of Idemitsu arrives.

thanks for the kind reply , ill finish up the lucas 2 cycle that i purchased yesterday then get some idemitsu as you recommend since i cant find anything not tcw3 certified locally.
for the sohn adapter reservoir can i have just pure idemitsu premix oil in there when i get that fluid?

Yes, stay away from TCW, I'd run without premix before I'd put that crap in the tank.
Look for an ISO-EGD or JasoFB rated oil, or do without, boat oil is for boats.
