i was considering the sony u series (u50/u71/u750), and passed on a really great deal for one of them while i was in japan. I am now hitting myself over head, as apparent just recently powerstrip was updated to allow custom timings (but still not custom resolutions) for the u series' vid card.

Still, it might be an option though. For me the only issue is whether the device has a VGA output. Which sucks, cause now things like the Zaurus and the Stylistic (which looks cool btw) are out of the question. Those u's are nice though... 1.2 lbs

I tried dismantling and repairing a broken laptop a la MazdaManiac's setup but only succeeded in breaking it further.

oQo runs a nice $2k. But it would probably fit right in the tape/MD crevice behind the piano black piece... which would make an awesome custom door/cradle.

But I'm just not sure a new carputer is worth it... just costs too much for me.

Anyway... any updates on the sCANalyzer?

One feature left to be added, one other change left to be made. Expect an announcement soon (days not weeks).

Taka, you'll get an updated release for beta testing once it's done. I'm hoping this release fixes your problems when you run at 1400x1050 - and just in case it doesn't I've put in some additional features to help us debug the problem. My development machine runs at 1400x1050 and I haven't seen the same problems you have. We'll get to the bottom of the problem (if it's still there).

Questions..

Are you maintaining a waiting list?

Are you closer to releasing preliminary pricing?

(I'll let others whine about ship date - I know software development is impossible to schedule!)

Good question about the waiting list. It would be a good idea in terms of forward planning of the interface manufacture (hardware).

Price? I have said on my "Hymee Prices" thread in the AU forum that we are targetting $250 AUD. In USD we are going for under $200. Probably $180 or $190.

Schedule.... Aaargh. I need Timbo to come and manage me

Cheers,
Hymee.

If this gets a list started, put me on it!
Sure hope you're not trying to certify to DO-160, we'll never see it!

Hey, I recognise that I've heard it before. It's a software guy's cry for help. What it means is that he has probably a 95% acceptable product right now....but keeps struggling ...(er, tinkering, actually)... for that last 5%, bug free. Hey, Hymee and sco, appreciate your pursuit of excellence...it'll never happen. Shoot the programmer and start shipping guys! :o

Actually we're being pretty good... we're in ship mode which means no new features. Just been a bit short on time. I'm working on the last bits of code right now.

Thanks Timbo. That was just the kick along I was hoping to get from my thinly veild call for encouragement.

What say I just make sco panic, and do the following...
  • Announce a date to ship, say in 3 weeks time.
  • Announce the price. Well, I sorta already did that.
  • Take paid pre-orders over the next week.
  • Get the required number of interfaces to cater for the number of pre-orders (over the following 2 weeks).
  • Finish the little bist of functionality we want to do in the meantime.
  • Write the user guide in the meantime.
  • Final beta release
  • Ship 'em on the ship date.

Sounds like the plan. I'll go and ring sco. Actually, he will prolly ring me as soon as he sees this. Nothing like burning your bridges to make something happen.

Cheers,
Hymee.

He he. I'm looking at the list of things to do on my whiteboard and all the things marked "sco" will be done in three weeks... the question is will it be the same for all the ones with "Hymee"<stickpoke> :D

Ok, you guys...this is standard programmer dickering :p

Hymee, I've reviewed everything that has to be done on the schedule and can confirm your announcement that the sCANalyser will officially ship on 26 April (he he he! Hymee & sco, that means you need a gold master by, say, 20 April -- these dates will be no problem -- after all, you have the whole ANZAC weekend!

Don't panic! Remember, there is always sCANalyser update 1.1; upgrade to version 2.0;...and the biggy....sCANalyser Pro

Hey, I'd better put my name on "the list"...and add one more infuriating question: will it work on a ThinkPad 240 (Celeron 300/196Mb RAM ...max!) under XPP? Just retrieved this from one of my sons and reckon it'll be a great in-car laptop

Tim

BTW, the Bundy & Coke is on ice for the bust!

The program is still small enough to transmit electronically. I think it is ok to release it as long as there is a good menu written about each parameter and how to use it.

Good luck and hope you have solved my big screen problem. LOL

Looks like I might be in Melbourne for the ANZAC day weekend... better cut gold before then, eh? There are many features already "punted" to a future release/edition.

Not sure how it will go on a machine that slow. It'll probably run in that much RAM if you're not running 24 bit colour. The slowest machine I've run it on is a 733 Pentium II - will see if I can get hold of a slower machine and report back. The gauges are pretty CPU intensive.

Yep - I bet so on CPU Usage.

The JDM RX8 Mazdaspeed Version II cars have the ability to display gauges as standard on the Navi. I wonder how they are doing this without a computer?
