Snapping Noise

Hi, I've been trying to track a snapping noise. It occurs when car stands after like an 1 hour or overnight during first time reversing only, when turning to the right. As I'm turning and reversing at the same time there is a snap, it occurs once, then I would have to wait about an hour or so to duplicate it again or even a day. Im started to search the forums, but if anyone knows or heard of the problem please let me know.

brake pads locked to calipers.. i get that after a wash often.. but if you are moving and it happens abs test.

Both of those above posts are really good Adam. I was going to ask if you parked your car outside at night because I'm with Swoope on the car wash or moisture thing. Mine will snap once occassionally after a rain or wash, and not even when I'm turning or anything, but upon the veery first move after. You can almost tell what it is in this case. The second post is really interesting as well and could very well be the source as it kinda looks like it more closely depicts what you have mentioned.

Thanks guys. Yes, the car is outside. I'll look into it and see what I get. I also forgot to mention it comes from the driver front side(wheel area I guess), atleast thats how it sounds. I'll do some tests and keep an update.

Also, GO48 thanks for that post I did clean those earlier this year, maybe it is now just one wheel I'll give it another clean. =)

Notice the lug nut torque spec of 108 ft lbs. for the snapping fix in that bulletin. Seems a bit extreme to me, but you might try going a bit higher than what you now have.

Well after some research I discovered not alot, but it seems to do it when it is chilly out. Also while washing my car followed by drying it I kicked the driver front wheel and it snapped it sounds like the caliper just unsticking? Could it be? I'll wait till its cold out. Thanks guys.

Yes, that's very likely as it happens to me after a wash. Especially if you are in there cleaning the calipers thru the rims like I do.

Check for cracks in the lower control arm where it pivots at the chassis.

I had a similar "snapping" sound (in the front end), after backing out of a parking spot, then moving forward; this TSB fixed it.
