TX Short Block replaced

Reading the CarFax on an 04 I want to purchase indicates the Short Block was replaced about 30K miles ago...

I did not know what that meant and searched the web ... very easy to find what it means for a piston engine. But even searching this forum I am unsure what it means for the Rotary. Does it mean the same as the core? Or does it mean the whole engine was replaced?

And is this a good thing for me if I buy this 8? It is out of warranty.

Thanks ...

Not sure wtf it means by short block, but without more information it will be hard for us to tell if the car is going to be a good buy.

The short block is basically the same as it would be on a piston engine...so basically it is the engine block stripped of everything that doesn't rotate when the motor is running...so intake manifolds, OMP, wiring harnesses, alternator etc etc

Finding an 04 in that area that hasn't had a rebuild is unlikely really....seems like the hot climates are rebuild heaven

It's not an uncommon thing with the early model year rx8s. And if it was done during the warranty period, then it was done by mazda, so it should be ok.

Yes it was done by Mazda. I wasn't sure from reading the forum but it doesn't sound like a new engine from Mazda solved the problem ... but I guess only people who had trouble with the replacement engines are more prone to post.

On my way to North Park Mazda in San Antonio to get this thing checked out now.

Take cell phone pics of exterior, interior, and under the hood. We will let you know if we see anything funky.
