Shooting Flames Was Hinting a Problem?
Although I knew my car was shooting flames (BEFORE I gutted my Cat), and even though I knew it shouldn't be able to because it ha(d) the stock Cat and exhaust on it, it never really occurred to me that this could have been a sign for the problems my car has been having lately.
If anyone remembers, I posted videos up and what not a few weeks ago, and, although many people believed it was compression loss, I did a "backyard" compression test and it all seemed fine - The problem appeared to be that one coil was not producing spark, and all the spark plugs were basically "dead", per say.
Anyways, back on topic. The fact that I was shooting flames - I am wondering if this quite possibly could have been a sign that something was wrong? At first I figured the guy who had it before me had gutted the Cat, but I was wrong. The coil that was not producing spark is the bottom (Leading perhaps?) one. The way I see it (Though this is merely a guess on my part), is that possibly the plug didn't fire sometimes when shifting, and the excess gas was forced out of the chamber into the exhaust, allowing it to ignite in the heat and cause the flames.
I was just wondering what people think of this theory. As much as I think this is possible, I am quite sure it is very unlikely. Just the fact that I was shooting flames while completely stock had me thinking for a while..
Any opinions appreciated!
