Sequential Shifting System
You would be surprised how much time we have available to make the electronic decisions. An engine spinning at 10,000 RPM rotates once every 6ms (6 thousandths of a second). A typical gear shift will be completed in less than 10 revolutions of the engine, which allows us to execute 1.8 million instructions during that time!

I was under the assumption that calculating RPM is the most time consuming part, but when I really think about it, the frequency from the crank/cam sensor can be calculated very quickly.
Neil, I imagine your system needs to be "tuned" for different gearboxes, correct?
i havent heard it called a dogmission before.....dog-gear...or dog-box. but no ive been emailing back and forth with a company (sssdrive.com) they do it only for evo, wrx, and porche now but are developing a system for rear wheel drive cars. their system attaches to the side of the gear box and accuates the gears by just a tap of the stick up or down and with paddle shifting steering wheels. i have a 6-speed manual but i bought a automatic steering wheel with the paddle shifters...so the hardest part of the install (once i get it) will be to wire the steering wheel controls up right. when they are done with the final product i hope that i can cut the shifter down so the center console is clean. the kit will also come with a LED readout to show you what gear you are in plus safty measures to keep it from going into neutral or reverse when down shifting. the main reason im doing this is because i was recently in a dirt bike accedent and loss the use of my right arm (my shifter) and i dont know how much i will get back so im going to make the best of it. and as for the cost it really shouldnt be more then 3k.
It isn't a true standard transmission that has a shifter that moves forked mechanically to shift through the gears. Basically you shouldn't pay huge amounts of money from this place when any production vehicle that uses a automatic transmission with the ability to tell the transmission when to shift electrically. You can buy a used one for very cheap. The difference is all in what you want to use to tell it when to shift. You can choose auto or manual shifting in them.
