Even the fastest race engines are going very very slowly in terms of computing power .

~30MHz controller(if it's ~1 instruction per clock)?

I was under the assumption that calculating RPM is the most time consuming part, but when I really think about it, the frequency from the crank/cam sensor can be calculated very quickly.

Neil, I imagine your system needs to be "tuned" for different gearboxes, correct?

It sounds like it's an automatic transmission with an electric shifting that can use any type of up and down.

It isn't a true standard transmission that has a shifter that moves forked mechanically to shift through the gears. Basically you shouldn't pay huge amounts of money from this place when any production vehicle that uses a automatic transmission with the ability to tell the transmission when to shift electrically. You can buy a used one for very cheap. The difference is all in what you want to use to tell it when to shift. You can choose auto or manual shifting in them.
