It's not a center console, it's a food/drink warmer.

I think of it more as a warming oven. I'm surprised that they don't market more directly to caterers.

It's weird, I've never really noticed this...but I never have to put ice cream or anything like that in the console either.

Hot console

I just got my RX8 this friday and I noticed that. I had my cell phone charger in there and thought it was causing the problem.

So if this is a feature, perhaps someone will build a mod for a warm salad bar type of thing... I'm thinking pizza by the slice. Perhaps a sneeze gaurd from the ceiling.

MIne gets warm but not "boiling" And no problems as far as the A/C keeping up. And it's been damn hot here in Fl. as well. Check out the DIY on the added insulation and solve the problem.

Center Console Insulation TSB

[QUOTE=04RX*]do any of you have this problem where the center console and shifter area gets really hot ...?QUOTE]04RX, There used to be a TSB on this, at http://www.finishlineperformance.com...ins_index.html , but it's no longer there. Maybe you can search the forum on "center console insulation". I had the TSB applied about 8 months ago and my center cup holders haven't been hot, since. Don't know why they removed that TSB from the Rosenthal website, though. Let us know if you find it! hth, Gary

When I changed to aftermarket exhaust and mid-pipe, the heat in the consol dropped considerably. Before that, I used to think I could dump a few kernels in the cup holders, close the lid and enjoy fresh popcorn on the road :D

I thought it was just me. Does anyone know where to find the Service Bulletin on this?

I just picked up my 2005 RX-8 last week. I didn't realize the cup holders got so hot until it melted my cola slurpee.

I put a pot of water on there and drove around for a while. I didn't get any boiling, but my seat got a little wet in the turns.

Move to Antartica

Yes, the console gets hotter than hell. I installed a different midpipe and catback, and it dropped considerbly. On hot days, I split the AC between foot and face, and crank it up.
