An RX-8 that won't go?
I need your help guys. My RX-8 will start/idle and rev to the moon. Problem is that (hot or cold) there's a flat 'spot' (more like a field) between 5 and 7K. It's like the engine hits a wall ( ) at about 5100 and if I keep it pinned it will gradually climb out and act as if nothings wrong after 7K! I tried the reset with the odometer trick but can't get the reset with the brake pedal to work. I have MIL on but that only happened today. Car has been running like this for a few weeks now. Don't know what the code is yet. I look forward to your help.

It's a 2004 stick shift with only 16,000 miles. Bone stock, no mods whatsoever (yet). Haven't taken it to dealer yet (like many of you I like to do the work myself). What would the dealer recall involve? I suspected the Cat also. Would a bad coil (or cat for that matter) react only on a very specific RPM range? Is there a trick to read the code(s) from the ECM? My OBDII scanner obviuosly won't work with the new CAN system.

You're still under warranty, so the simplist trick to read the codes would be to take it to a dealer.
Where are you located? I'm in Northern Virginia and I've got a Harrison CANScan. But with the warranty, you're eventually going to wind up at a dealer.
All of the recall notices and service bulletins are here:

The top two red ones describe the current recall. The green one just below that describes the extended power train warranty.
