No they can't. Better said... they can't in an efficient way.
LPG requires a different tune and you can't switch tunes on the go with the stock pcm.
Add the other bunch of bad things that lpg does and you get the whole picture lol

I wonder if CNG would work better than LPG. Here in the states we have a lot of natural gas resources.

Not really, besides that methane is in decline here in europe. LPG is way more popular within the "d'ho i'm broke but i want to drive a car anyway" communities.

Opening lpg fuelled rennys isn't a nice view btw.

Sorry you couldn't get it to work.

+1 though for reporting the 'failure'. One learns sometimes as much from negative results from experiments as the positive ones, yet very few of the former ever get reported.

I was talking specifically about the apv valve opening.

I guess the only solution would be to get a PCM off the hydrogen 8, that should have programing to switch over fuels.

I'd love to have a propane or cng powered rotary. Gasoline is the single dirtiest thing you could possibly run through your engine and it is responsible for nearly all of the deposits inside it.

It's true that gasoline is dirty but it also helps metered oil dilution (and allows us to premix).
Lubrication inside gas fuelled housings is horrible and the carbon deposits are so hardened that they're a bitch to clean. Most system start on petrol, then switch to lpg.

Even the springs show increased wear since the seals are less "stable" and chatter. The marks are similar to those found in the early pre-reflash engines.

Don't forget that ALL S1 RX-8 engines suffer from the same oil metering design flaw that a reflash can't correct.

True, that's why premixing is vital.
However adding a 3rd oil nozzle doesn't cover the whole "surface".
If you see the cleaner part of the rotor face, where the oil dripples, you can see that it barely fills 2\5 of the whole face.
I'm not completely sure that just a 3rd oil injector can solve the issue, i'd premix anyway.

Lpg engines especially show a thinner part of the rotor being "cleaned" by the oil and some gunk forms for the combustion. You are igniting something that doesn't mix with it in the end... Lpg and engine oil don't mix well.

I'm not saying that building a lpg powered rotary is unfeasable, it surely can be done. The point is that doing it without harming reliability on a stock engine is nearly impossible.

what about these guys from UK ( http://www.egasuk.com/rx8.html ) look what they say:

"although all the LPG components appear to be standard, there are some real differences we'd like to keep to ourselves for now"

anyone know someone with a kit for these EGASUK guys ?

I'm also really interested in this.

Looks like the failure case is for a 231 model, and there have been some successes with the 192.
I also saw the website mentioned above. My local LPG place says they have had a couple of 8's in from there which had problems though. They say it can be done with a 192, they won't touch a 231, but expect a few aftercare visits to get it right. But they can't guarantee the job, only the equipment they install, due to the nature of the job.
The place is called Avon Autogas in Bristol. The chap I emailed was very open and honest, I am just researching the system he said he would use (OMVL??) I would be interested to hear from the chap in Greece his opinion on the differences between this and his BRC system!!

If I take the plunge I'll let you know.

It is just a series of lpg sequential injectors bolted to holes in the the intake manifold
Pm me if you need more info, i opened some engines that ran on lpg.

update

Hi, after some years of running your RX-8 on LPG is there any update you could give?
I've had mine 3 years now and love it but want to convert it this year so would really appreciate some feedback,

thanks <3
