RX-8 Exhaust sound level

Does anyone know the dbA at the input and output of the muffler for a stock 8. I am gathering data for a soon-to-be-built custom exhaust for a diesel converted Renesis and can't find this info.

diesel converted Renesis
Sounds like a bad idea. The stock exhaust is pretty quiet.

Have you already converted the Renesis to diesel?

I would think it would have problems.

WTF, there is gonna be quite a few problems with this car running on diesel.

What are you trying to do??? Are you going to keep it NA or go Turbo diesel?

There wont be any advantage in power, maby you want it to me a more economical car? Like a jetta TDI

Why would you do this, ITS A ROTARY SPORTS CAR, not a garbage truck.

There are rotary diesel motors, both NA and turbo, all differnt setups, but they mostly power generators or compressors or something, not a car.

Is the motor going to stay in the RX8 or is it going to power something else?

I have so many quesions about this.....

WHY WOULD YOU TAKE ONE OF THE MOST ADVANCED ROTARY MOTORS EVER AND MAKE IT RUN ON DIESEL???

What ECU are you going to run....

Anyway, the short awnser is that the car pre muffler, is pretty loud, pre cat, its really loud.

I WANT MORE INFO ON THIS!

Yes, it can be done. The engine will be used as an APU for another system, and diesel is the only fuel that is available. The ECU is being developed separately. I have heard that the exhaust noise pre-cat is about 140dbA, but I cannot confirm this. Mazda does not give out this information freely.

diesel engines have a 20:1 compression ratio or higher, how you planning to achieve that?

Very interested in your project!

Stop flaming at him!!

Running on diesel fuel does not imply self-iginition, nor does it imply a high compression ratio!
You can spark-ignite diesel fuel like gasoline, only that it is harder to do since diesel fuel has a higher
flamming temperature.

I'm very interested in your project, I was starting to look into ways for diesel usage (actually Jet-A) by myself.
Are you willing to share information? You can also PM me, if you don't want to expose yourself to fire from of our
esteamed colleagues here...

I don't think the motor is strong enough to run on diesel.

diesel runs hotter?? i knwo it needs high pressure to combust.. didn't know it was hotter...

yer gonna have hell of time with everything melting

Doesn't look like this is going in a car guys.

Zkiller - why don't you just measure it yourself? I doubt anyone else has DB measurements. And if they do, how do you know they used the right/calibrated equipment?

Well, running on diesel fuel does not imply to run as a pure diesel process with self-ignition.
That means there is also no need for extraordinary compression.

You can spark-ignite diesel fuel as well. Actually most current diesel-wankel engines use
spark plugs. I know only of one recent experimental engine using a real diesel process with
self-iginition of the injected fuel. But it is actually a complicated creature with two tages per main rotor.

What is intended here is just running the Renesis on different fuel. Btw., Mazda has also a
Hydrogenium version of the Renesis running. Has 110 HP, if I recall correctly.
