all the complaints come from manual owners. we don't get a lot of talk here about changing the auto transmission fluid.

I am thinking 20-25K would be more the norm.

RP MaxGear seems to work fine for me. I also just went 5w30 Royal Purple for the engine.

We'll see how this goes, but it's noticeably smoother and faster. If both engine and trans go kaput, I'll go get myself some better stuff from non-Mazda sources.

thanks bro but < Auto, well for the fluid im just gonna use Royal Purples ATF but for oil i was thinking about 5w30 royal purple engine oil but i just got a new engine so im gonna keep it on the safe side and use non-syn for the first 1,000-1,500 miles.

WOW! There has been many heated discussions on this web site, about using syn or dyno in early 8s, the ones prior to 05. I'd love to use RP in my VR 04 if I could without doing harm to engine seals. Right now I use Castrol GTX 5w-30 which has been great so far, also I add IDEMITSU Rotary Premix to my gas tank for added protection of the seals. This premix is a synthetic blend fuel lube, but you probably already know that. If you would, please let me know how you make out with the RP engine oil.

Many Thanks

I just rebuilt an '04 engine that used RP since Day One and had 17,000 miles on it. There was no strange issue with the synthetic not burning in the housings and the bearings and clearances looked real good. I still would suggest the use of the Sohn OMP adapter to use 2-stroke oil for the injection circuit and whatever oil you want for the engine bearings.

So are we deciding that RP is not the best for tranny? Is redline better. I am just beginning to get some hardER shifts than usual and figured going to a synthetic trans fluid would b good.......I'm just not sure weather to use RP or Redline....

RedLine seems to be the popular choice around here. For me, I have always used Mobil1 75W90 and never had issues with it. I am currently trying out some Eneos 75W90 and it seems pretty cool. The current/popular wisdom is to make sure to use GL-4 rather than GL-5, though, and Eneos is a GL-5.

Make sure to research the issue of broken clutch pedals, too.

AFAIK, RP Maxgear is both GL-4 and GL-5. I do notice that the shifts are a lot smoother with RP, but I don't think it holds up to heat very well (after a while under racing conditions, the 2nd gear synchro starts acting up). I'll flush it out and use another round of RP Maxgear before I decide if its really Maxgear being a bitch, or something else entirely.

PA

i also have the problem with the 2nd gear synchro acting up!

i changed mine 1000 miles ago (royal purple 75-90 max gear)

i personally think it may be to thick?

anyone else have this problem? and anyone figure out a solution..

i am about to drain it out and go to redline..
i cant risk breaking a synchro..

dothackRAVE- how long have you had your royal purple running through your car?
