rotor mounts?

my rotor mounts are bad and have been sence i bought my 8 in oct of 2007. its just a little vibrate on the shifter but its not under warranty and its stayed the same sence (vibrate intensity) i had got the car but i just last month found out its my rotor mounts and its not normal.

should i buy new ones now and is it really bad to go on bad mounts and have i messed up anything perminit by going as long as i have on bad ones.

its a 04 manual with 29700 miles on it.

FYI if i am asking a dumb Q. and i need to find it on my own then one person could tell me and not 2^ pages of people telling me i am a neb and should search.

I think you are mean "motor" mounts.

I'd change them just due to the annoyance of the vibrating alone. So yes. Change them.

Motor mounts hold your motor where they are, and stops it from hitting other components in the bay, or falling out the bottom of your bay. If a mount fails (i.e. breaks), yes, could cause some bad damage, due to higher stress on the other mounts. If more than one fails you will have huge problems.

Was told by my dealer it is a pretty common thing. They normally go on the exhaust side. heat I guess. I know of 2 other people personally who have failed engine mounts. Was also assured that it was no big deal but still a good idea to get fixed at the soonest opprtunity. But mine just had 1 damaged mount. So I guess if all 4 of yours are gone then it could be pretty bad news. But on that note a guy i know discovered 1 day that all his mounts were damaged. He got them changed and still has never had any engine problems more than a year later.

BTW about the vibration on the shifter. Mine did that both before and after the engine mounts were fixed. Seems the vibrating shifter had nothing to do with the mounts.
