Rev limit

Okay, so the RX-8 has a redline of 9000 RPM. Very nice. I've been pondering though....what kind of damage would there be to a rotary engine if you "over revved" it?? Seeing as it has no valves and valvetrain, I don't see what could break.

For one thing, the e-shaft might become e-lastic.

it's an RX tradition. the engine is smooth, and approaches redline fast... it's just an audible warning to shift, and you can use it to time shifts, to avoid bouncing it off the limiter.

It was also the first thing that I disconnected in all my previous rotaries. Once you've driven a rotary (or any engine, for that matter) for a while, you should be able to tell the revs by ear without some damned intrusive beeper scolding you for getting close to the redline. IMHO, of course.

...some people really like it... but yeah, moving the trigger rpm up a few hundred wouldn't hurt, if at all possible.

I thought the cut out was at 10k? Maybe that was old info.

Wanna bet? Downshift from 4th to 2nd gear at 130km/hr and see what happens..
