Restricter Plate help
If you are referring to changing your 4-port engine into a 6-port engine on the auto - I would think that if you could do this, it probably wouldn't run right. The PCM is programmed to optimize the timing, injector profile, etc., for the 4 port design. Simply opening up the additional ports will screw this up. ...And to answer your next question, it probably is unlikely that the PCM could be reprogrammed to the 6-speed, 6-port configuration - because it "knows" that the automatic is there.
The PCM (ECU) would require complete reprogramming. As w2aew
says, simply removing the "restrictor plate" would likely screw things up. Even if you could get it to work, the AT is not designed to handle the higher revs/HP/torque of the 6 port engine.

There is no restrictor plate. The cast iron housings in the motor are totally different - the autos have 4 intake ports, the manuals 6. This isn't something you just unbolt and have free horsepower.

What are we NASCAR. Sorry had to....you say restrictor plate and the first thing that pops in my head is rednecks running around in a circle.
But, Seriously......restrictor plates from what I recollect are typically found inbetween a carb and the block...(we don't have) or behind the TB. I don't believe I say evidence of one? Correct me if I'm wrong....which is quite frequent these days.
