I would be very greatful if someone can help with the below.

A friend has 2 broken halogen headlamps (cracked plastic lens covers) on his 8 and I have 2 spare xenons headlamp units that he can have.

I know the units can be baked and the plastic lens covers swapped but I was wondering if the halogen units can be taken out completely and replaced with xenon units?

Does anybody know if this is possible and if possible whats involved.

If you asking can you simply swap halogen for xenon, the simple answer is yes. However you will have to make sure you install the ballast as well. Without them the head lights will not work. Also please do us all a favor and do not install xenon bulbs behind a Holden housing.
