Question Replace spark plugs at 30 months with low miles?

Would you replace your spark plugs at 30 months (per maintenance schedule 1) even if you only had 5,600 total miles?

30 months and 5,600 miles, stop posting and go for a drive. I can do 5,600 miles in less than four months

If you have not flooded I wouldn't replace them. You can at least take a plug out and post a photo here for us to look at.

30 months and 5600 miles, I'd sell it to somebody who would enjoy it.

The scheduled replacement miles is 37,500 and like everybody has told you, you need to drive this car! 2 1/2 years and only 5600 miles??

There's nothing wrong with that. My schedule only permits me to drive it on weekends. I have 2 other vehicles that are used for work, errands, etc. I live in the Pittsburgh area so it doesn't go out of the garage all winter. Believe me, when I do drive it, I savor every minute.

I'm sure you do savor every minute of driving. I have 4,000 and just got my plugs, battery and starter replaced per the TSB. Didn't really need it but it was free. The battery and starter would have done the job.

It wouldn't hurt to inspect them. The simple act of removing them occasionally will help avoid having them seize in place and become impossible to remove (due to dissimilar metals). It will also give you a chance to apply a small amount of anti-sieze compound to the threads to further reduce that risk.

A coating of dielectric grease where the wire boots sit on the ceramic part of the plug will help prevent the boots from heat-fusing to the plugs and helps keep out dirt and moisture.

Just for balance, I have 51k on my RX8 in just over two years. The miles pile up kinda quickly on the highway with a long commute. I replaced mine at around 40k miles and man were they fried. Definitely do it at 36K (what's in the book) or before. Nothing like having whole clean electrodes to smooth out the revs and put the power back in.

I have had my 8 for 20 months and have not hit 6,000 miles yet. I don't drive much in the winter and very rarely to work (no road trips yet). So it's definitely possible.

I haven't replaced my plugs yet, but I plan on getting the starter and plug(s?) done on the TSB.

Since you have had the car 30 months it means it is a mid 2003 build. The main reason for replacing the plugs is to get the new plug design. I would recommend asking your dealer for the "Engine cranks no start" Service Bulletin updates (battery, starter, leading plugs) while the car is still under waranty.

^agreed i had that done..nothing was wrong with my car...i just wanted a new battery and starter befor my warrenty ended i've reeplaced my plugs twice...(they looked fried but not dead both times)...i have 51k+ and she is a 2003 build she likes to drive.

but you have a point about the pitt area..winters don't give you much chance to drive our car. my girl goes to school there...all thoughs damn mountains are fun in the spring/summer...but are brutal in the winter
