Question Renesis Rotors

Why is it that for the last 1-2 years Mazda Kept showing us pics of a Honeycomb type structure for the rotor. They plastered it everywhere and now are using a stainless steel rotor that is more similar to the original design? Not to say the original design was bad but did they encounter problems with the new one? Any insight would be appreciated.

this was covered elsewhere on this forum awhile age but to save you some searching-the gist of it is that those honeycomb rotors that you speak of and the ones they show now are the same ones.the honeycomb ones are actually cutaways of the regular rotors so you are looking at the inside and not the outside face :D

The honeycomb cut-away rotors were indeed Stainless steel rotors! Japan/USA Mazda develop the use of new material for multi-rotor engines in late '80s to reduce weight & friction by use ceramics seals (guru designer Dr. Iannetti & engineer Rick Engleman). It's nothing new, but it's new to the consumer public. I'm glad to see Rotary racing technologies are being past to the consumer after a decade of R&D.

Kenichi Yamamoto & Rick Engleman are considered the GODs in the entire world of rotary engine.

the rotors have always been hollow: they have to be so the e-shaft can spray oil all over the insides to cool it. seriously, they've always been hollow cast, and yeah, they're just cutaways
