Remote Start Help

hows it going guys, This is my first post. Ive been looking around this site for a while getting some good idea. I tried a search but came up with nothing. I have a DEI remote start system i want to install but i was hoping some one could post a wiring diagram of the cars ignition system and anti theft security system. If not i guess i will have to go pick up the wiring diagram book from the dealer. I have a 2004 rx8 manual with all options if you need that info. Thanks for the help!

Remote start

Don't think you can install remote starting on a manual trans.

You def can. I've seen people on this site that have got it done before, clutch needs to be bypassed which i already did, car now starts without pressing on clutch,. other then that ignition should be exactly the same

also check out my diy on turbo timer install as it disables the key sense to allow the alarm to be armed while the engine is running which may also help too.

remote start can definately be installed on a manual transmission, but you wont find very many shops to put it in for you for liability reasons. as to going to a car audio shop and getting the wiring colors for installing an alarm and start, they probably wont give it to you either, unless you are friends with someone that works there, as there is the liability of giving out the info, as you can use it to break into a vehicle and disable the security system. as to bypassing the chip in the key, you need a DEI 556U, and you need to put one of your keys into this so the remote start will work.

Personally I'd let an installer do it for you...but hey that's just me.

As for remote start on a manual RX-8, I have it on mine. It's actually very safe on the RX-8, because the car has a nuetral wire, meaning, the car knows when the tranny is in gear or not. So first you tie into the e-brake, and then you tie into the neutral wire. If no e-brake, don't start, if e-brake, check nuetral switch...you get the point.

I think i can handle the install. I am going to check how much they would charge to install i do have all the parts, if its not to bad ill let them. I could use alittle less headaches on the weekend after working on BMW's all week. And let me say they suck!! But if its kinda crazi ill do it myself, but thanx for the points about the ebrake and being in gear

thanks for the diagram.

i have a Q... where in the engine bay is the neutral switch located? the diagram gives a general idea but with all the junk in that area id like a more precise area to look for the harness.

i found it, it is about 6 to 10 inches to the rear of the car from the shifter location. there are 2 grey wires that you should see, one will test constant ground, the other will only test ground when the transmission is in neutral. you can also get the wire at the ecu, but i didnt really want to run another wire into the engine bay.

no, no stripe. i apologize, but i wasnt exactly clear there. they are located under the car, right on the transmission. i jacked up the car, and located the wires. then i ran the neutral safety input wire (this is for a dei alarm, so it may be different for your compustar) to the wire by taking the 4 bolts that hold the shifter boot down, lifting that up, and feeding the wire down and back.
