Rebuilding Renesis ,anybody have a wiring diagram?
Tore down my motor over the weekend. At 170k miles she did pretty good since I brought my car with 15 miles brand new. The hard starts became overwhelming and even when the motor was cold it would take 3-6 tries to crank over.
Tore it down , long story short broke two front apex seal , 1 rear apex seal , and both rotor housings had mild chaffing on the fuel side, or upper part of the chamber. Yet the car started and did run, amazingly with those issues going on inside.
After cleaning everything the rotors are still good, waiting on houses. I have the Atkins rebuild kit ready to go.
Did a search on the wiring diagram, and couldn't locate it. Would any of you guys have a link , I could use that to assist me on the rebuid when its time to put it back together. I have tons of pics to share and will post them when I am finished. Thanks.

in regards to wiring the engine it all seems to fall into place, your know when youve put something in the wrong place because the wiring will be tight.
only thing i would say to watch for is make sure you get the injectors wired around the correct way, they can reach the other injectors and the wiring will look ok but come starting up time it wont run correctly. ;-)

lots of questions here.
Dont you have the factory manual? Its on the forum somewhere. It includes the electronics.
The apex slots were not wallowed out--they speced ok?
Were the seals broken or cracked?
If they were broken it usually looses compression and will not run correctly--right?
If they were cracked--what area were they cracked at?
While the harness is off --check all the connectors/wires . Our cars are getting a little age on them and the harness has to also deal with a lot of underhood heat. Its almost guaranteed that a couple connectors will need attention.
Are you going to upgrad the oil pump pressure?
come on give us more dude!

The apex slots were fine.
All three seals were broke length wise almost a 1/4 away from the top.
Because they were broke I lost alot of compression. I couldn't go above 7k rpms without the car bucking and giving me alot of hesitation when the motor was fully warmed up. On cold days I could rev to redline, on days above 70(I live in FL) which it has been these past few weeks, the car doesn't like going past 7k rpm. Anything under 7k rpms and the car drives fine.
In the past 15k miles my hard starts were getting troublesome.
I am looking into getting a better oil pump. Still researching.
Street port is going to be tuff to do, as those primary/secondary ports are so close to the water jacket. Going to focus on flow rather than going bigger. My buddy brought over a 86 intermediate, and the ports were so tiny compared to the Renesis. Mazda really ported the hell out of the Renesis.

Let us know if you have any hassles and I/we should be able to help.
BTW: If you can give this guy a Donation he has some good info, it costs him to run website...even $10 helps.

Anyway before buying any parts contact Mazmart and see how much they'll charge for an engine.
At your mileage rebuilding it the proper way may end up costing the same if not more than a good remanufactured engine. The difference between your build and theirs is that you know nothing about what you're doing (neither does your buddy) while mr. Engman could teach mazda how to do it
I understand that rebuilding your own engine can be a fun project but on a 170k miles car i would opt for the safest routes as other items will probably fail soon because of wear and tear.

bse does have a point. This engine appears simple to a lot of people. But the devil is in the details and we would hate for you to spend all this money and time just to have the engine not turn out as you had hoped.
For example--almost guranteed that the side plates need lapping, the e shaft needs specing and the entire assembly will need rebalancing. And these are just some of the things that have to be done to get a solid engine rebuild. There are a lot more that havent been mentioned.
Not trying to shoot you down dude--kudos for wanting to do this yourself ( with help) and thanks for posting the info/ soon to be pics on a high milage engine which we dont get to see much off. We just are trying to share what we have learned over the years.
