Here was my quick and easy solution if you have some welding skills and a high performance Flow Master 44, and it has to be the 44 the were built to flow big blocks in the quater mile therefor it is the only model Flow master that can handle the heat of an RX8 and the muffler is only 80 bucks plus the U bend my system cost me 100 bucks and has that sweet deep mellow Flow Master sound. Let the hating begin
I like the mesh Any video or sound clips of your setup? My performance shop actually recommended the FlowMaster 40 series mufflers or a Corsa setup of some type.

Hey, looks better than mine! Mind is completely melted off....I like the battle scar look though. I'll look forward to the sound byte....I will actually be getting the 44 series muffler put on next Friday or Saturday, so it'll be nice to see what I'm looking forward to. I don't have the cat any longer though, so I may be a tad louder than your setup, so I may leave the supertrapp on the end as an added noise killer. Plus the ghetto look is a good conversations piece.

For a time I had a flowmaster 50 series with no cats (straight pipe) on my old TII. It sounded decent, but I found my ears would ring after highway trips. That would probably pretty close to a RX-8 with a cat and a 44 series. After a while I put a small straight through muffler in the middle and it was better.

It's definitely not as unbearable as a lot of people make it out to be, I've done both of my 8's like this and have only received compliments. When coasting I can barely hear it, but when WOT especially in tunnels it sounds like the wrath of hell

Ever get any sound clips of this? I think I've made my mind up that this is the setup i want. Also, could you post some pics of the underneath? It'd be nice to point to this thread for my local exhaust guy.

My civic Si, uncorked being a 9, and my friends uncorked 2nd gen rx7 being a 10. The cat muffles the sound quite a bit. Idle would be around a 4.5-5 with a cold start being a 6. The sound is not unbearable on the interstate and it sounds pretty good. Its not at all raspy and has a good tone to it. I would recomend this mod to anyone that wants more sound out of their car until they can round enough money up for a cat-back. And a plus side to this mod is that I will still pass inspection due to retaining the cat and having a sound deadoner (factory resonator). Thanks for all of the input and help guys.

I agree.. could you post pics of the setup you have? Maybe the 90 degree bend welded on and where the gases end up going? I'm very interested in doing my own exhaust. There's just no way I can drop $1k on a nice system.

I ended up going with a Flowmaster 40 series muffler and now I love the sound. I added some weight back, but it was worth it. Driving to events with the setup I had before would be terrible.

well what you are saying is diffrent you put in a y and extended it from the original muffler hook up but if you just slap a turn down on the original hook up point then it very loud.

In high school: RX3 vs 396 Chevelle -Who is louder.

Chevelle uncorked in the parking lot -very loud at 6000 rpm.
Everyone said he won. (LOL)
Next up...
The rotary uncorks - 12500 rpm.
Everyone ran blindly away.
The police came, they said someone reported a jet crashing.

Rotaries have no valves, the exhaust is supersonic pulses.

No mufflers on a RX8 is nothing compared to my friends porsche carrera. He has muffler/cat deletes and you can hear it a mile away at 3k rpm. Sounds like a really loud Harley.
