question on clutch pedal warranty

im taking my 04 tomorrow morning for a compression test to mazda. I was thinking when im there i might have them replace the clutch pedal depending on the price (81k on it)Its starting to have the infamous squeek when its pressed. I know my extended warrenty for the pedal expired but if i get another from mazda will the warrenty carry over for another 8 years?

the clutch pedal is a warranty extension, so it depends on when the car was sold, but they can tell you if its warranty when you're there.

if not, the part is like $100

You don't get another warranty. It's just from the original sale date of the car.

Have them identify the reason for the squeak. There are at least three possible causes.

mine was squeaky but only because the bushings on the spring rotted and fell off, greasing up the spring fixed the problem. there was no cracks so i felt no need to take it out and weld it up.

the switches can also cause a similar noise, and of course the cracked bracket.

Moved to Tech since this IS about the RX-8. General Automotive is for non-RX-8 stuff

Also corrected the spelling in the title so other searches find it.

If the problem is the bushings or the cut switch, how will welding help?

The bushings and cut switch are part of the bracket assembly. What Lvis should have done when his car was at the dealer was ask them to figure out what was squeaking.

That's what I did when mine squeaked. It was one of the bushings, and the fix was to replace the bracket, since the bushings are pretty much built in. Had it been the cut switch, that can be replaced by itself, or just removed.

IMHO, if you think a mechanic is competent to work on your car, it's best to give him symptoms rather than diagnosis.

The dealer will not take action unless they see a tear or break on the bracket, a squeak isn't sufficient for a replacement. $89 for a reinforcement bracket, how much is it to find a shop and pay that will weld it together and how long will it last before it breaks again?

If the neutral safety switch is not working, it could be the plunger which needs to be extended. It's serated and have to be disconnected and removed from the bracket for you to extend it. Otherwise, you can remove the switch and competely close the circuit which will now allow you to start the car without depressing the clutch pedal.
