question about rotary engines.

So i might be trading a 2004 gsxr 750 with 24xxx miles on it for a 2004 rx-8 with 78xxx miles on it. It needs engine and transmission replaced. It comes with new transmission with 6 month warranty. I will have to purchase an engine. I have looked around and have found some for around 1500 - 2500 I think. The car looks good (from what i can tell in the pics). He said the car has only been sitting for about 2 months and nothing has been stripped and that it should crank up.

He said the apex seals on the engine went bad causing the engine to lose pressure after first start. He also said the transmission was good when he bought it but it messed up because he moved it around the drive way with the motor like that.

Does this sound right? I have never been around anything with a rotary engine and do not have any mechanical skills in rotary engines. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks so much

1: Having a low compression engine does nothing to harm the transmission

2: Mazda's factory engine warranty on the RX-8 is for 8 years 100,000 miles. If the warranty was not voided (Call Mazda North American Operations customer service line and give them the VIN to see), and the owner has maintenance receipts, then it shouldn't be a problem for him to get the engine replaced under warranty.

3: If his transmission is truly damaged, then I suspect that his engine was abused. There are transmission failure methods that have nothing to do with abuse, but just the feel of how it's being presented to you seems ...off... to me. Like he might be hiding something.

I'd personally walk away from that 'deal'. Send the owner on here to learn some stuff about his car. Namely, this thread for starters: https://www.rx8club.com/new-member-forum-197/new-potential-owners-start-here-202454/

That alone should be the signal to run away from this guy ASAP, hell post his email or pm me his email so I can send him some tech questions, just to mess around. why would I want to do that? this guy is a total douche. He deserves some.
