Question about keys!

I recently purchased an '04 Rx8 and the only key I received was the valet key. I understand the keys have a key code, but how do I find that and do I need it to make a master key and a spare? Can a spare be cut crom the valet and used as a master key? Would it be able to unlock everything as a master would or would it not be able to unlock the trunk, glove box, etc? Also, can I buy just the blank, have a locksmith cut it, and the dealership program it? Or does the dealership have to do it all?
I've searched the forums for days looking for answers but no one has quite the same issue.
Please help!

If you have two keys (even if one is the valet) you can program your own keys to the car, but not if you only have one.

You can get a new one and get it cut and programmed to the computer only at the dealer. You can't even get a good key cut from just the valet, like you said they won't open all the locks.

If you bought from a dealer, take it back and demand a second key, if not, start saving your pennies.....
