Putting away for winter
Hey guys, Im about to put my rx8 away for winter, and I was wondering would it be better to change the oil before I put the car away for winter or when I take it out. oil has 2200 miles on it and I usually change it at 3k. Im pretty sure that it will be better after, I just want to have a used oil analysis done, dont want to wait 4 months to do it. Do u think it will effect the oil test it the oil sits for 4 months before I test it? Thanks, Max

I usually change my oil and put it away with less then 1000 miles on it. Then I change it first thing in the spring (or less then 500).
I figure this way the remaining oil and the new oil is reasonably well mixed.. (i.e. old oil is fairly well diluted) And then any water that has condensed into the oil over the winter/spring is removed fairly soon before it can cause much damage.
(I normally do oil changes right around 3k... so for me it's once in the spring, once in the summer and once in the fall..)

I would not change your oil until you take the car back after winter. When you change your oil its 3months or 3k miles which ever comes first. So the before the first time you take your car out let it warm up and change your oil and filter.I would get the oil test done soon. If you want to have an oil analysis drain it alittle bit and send out your sample. Remember let the oil drain a few seconds before collecting your sample. Also remember to add some Sta-Bil, and go to like walmart and buy a battery charger/battery maintainer for like 25 dollars to keep your battery charged.
