Pulstar - more on capacitors and resistors

Hi again. This is the CEO of Enerpulse maker of Pulstar. Just to clarify resistors and capacitors in Pulstar, all Pulstar pulse plugs are resistor plugs necessary to shunt out RFI/EMI (a requirement of all spark plugs since 1975). The capacitor developed with the help of Sandia National Laboratories stores and releases instantaneous power. This is similar to a camera flash that uses the same battery as a flashlight (or smaller) yet generates exponentially more light than a flashlight (breifly). It is scientifcally measurable and visible to the naked eye. What it will do in your particulary engine is the only question. On average compared to spark plugs we get a 6% improvement in fuel economy and 5-10 more horsepower. Occasionally we get nothing due either to the tune of the vehicle or the test procedure (as you can imagine test methods and equipment vary widely). Generally, we will beat any spark plug on the market.

Pulstar of RX8s

We are, of course, aware that we do not yet provide a plug for RX8s. But, I was thinking that your members probably drive other cars as well and they might want to try Pulstar on one of the those. In any event, I am simply trying to create a better understanding of our product so that your membership can speak from actual experience.

D - sounds worthwhile, but it needs to be quantitative.

My other car is an '87 Honda Accord. Currently have NGK plugs that are more than a few years old. A three way test between those, some new NGKs, and Pulstars would be interesting. If you can find someone with a dyno in my neighborhood (Northern Virginia), set things up with them, and provide a set of your plugs, I'll spring for a new set of NGKs.

Maybe nycgps would be interested in something similar with his Fit.

Yep. my Honda FIT is fairly new (just reached 1500 miles last night) so the plugs on it are fairly new as well.

Im located in New York.

oh I have a question for you Mr. Parker (I assume thats your last name, correct me if Im wrong), why dont Pulstar make some Rotary plugs? maybe our market is too small? or theres some techincal difficulties ?

I wouldn't mind trying it on the Camry since it is due for it regular maintenance, any thing that can help a 12+ year car gain HP and MPG would be nice, but I am more curious about application in Renesis, to see if there are any benefits for RE.

Mazda6club did a group buy and here's the reviews from the Mazda 6 owners http://forum.mazda6club.com/index.ph...pic=94496&st=0 It seems most discussion are about the gap and that Plugstar's recommended gap is not the same as what's stated in the manual.

Pulstar test and other questions

Hi guys. This is the CEO of Enerpulse again.

KenX8, I accept your offer to test, but you will have to find the dyno on your own nickel. Just email me at dparker@enerpulse.com and provide me with you car's specs. and I will send you a free set. Hondas love our product.

NYCGPS, the reason we do not have Pulstar for your rotaries is that they take a different configuration than we currently offer. You might be surprised to know that the 5 models of Pulstar service 75% of the world car park (47,000 vehicles) because Pulstar does not rely on tip configuration to ignite fuel. We do it with power. However, we don't yet have them for your cars (at $35 per spark plug, I wish we did).

Cunundrum, our gaps are different than spark plug gaps because the power rating of the Pulstar is significantly higher than spark plugs. This is especially true in high compression or high boost engines (turbos). As you all know when you increase cylinder pressure you increase voltage. This combined with high capacitance and a large gap could put a considerable load on the coil. If you hear about some people having problems with Pulstar, it is generally related to them not setting the gap according to our recommendations. Actually, many people don't even bother to set gaps. They just assume they are right from the factory (not a good idea). Iridium plugs make this even more difficult, because you can actually break the iridium tip off the plug when setting the gap. Sorry for the long winded explanation.

I'd donate the use of my car, not holding anyone responsible if the engine is damaged from the excess power, and take the time to do it. I could even round up some automotive press to witness the demonstration. But I don't want to cover the cost of the dyno. Wouldn't want to take a set of plugs just for a seat of the pants impression, even if Rene Blondlot assisted.

If something like the group dyno test described in the Corvette forum happens, I'll join in.

Ken
